Becoming more known

Just sharing some thought. More than 30 years ago, I was living in the states and hardly anyone ever heard or knew where Indonesia is. I am sure it has now changed, especially since the president himself lived there once. It has becoming more and more known, and these days when someone mentions Indonesia, it does not sound like a strange country that no one ever heard of such as how I experienced 30+ years ago. It's great to know that, but I just hope it does not become more popular for the wrong reasons such as metropolitan city traffic jams, nepotisms, or corruptions.

@sishy7 If anything, I've heard that it's a really nice place! It's not on the top of my list but wouldn't mind exploring there.

You're not too far away from Bali - I think it's only 3 hours flight from where you are...

@sishy7 Yeah it's not that far away. My neighbour has been a few times. She loves it.

Yes, I still remember where I was that Boxing Day down here... Sadly it became known worldwide because of a disaster that took hundreds of thousands lives...

I'm 30 years old and can remember being in 4th grade and having to know all the countries in each continent. I remember we had to identify Indonesia on the map. It's so hard for me to believe people were not aware it existed. That is kind of pathetic. I'm glad things have changed.

Yes, it's true. Even in high school, I had to point it out to some people on the globe. Here today, most people heard of Indonesia. Still, some of them think Indonesia is Bali; they don't bother to know much more about it.

I am very keen on visiting different countries in the world. When I was a child I saw Java on television when they were talking about poverty. Sadly one time in my memory of the news there was a bomb in Bali. I watched an interesting and enjoyable documentary about a group of inexperienced travelers taking a journey with challenges right across Indonesia. I loved seeing the Gilly Islands and Java looked very much fun for them too. I traveled around the world when I was 20 to 21 years old. I took an overland and oversea journey from Singapore to Sumatra in Indonesia. I loved seeing the steep roofed buildings, Lake Toba, the Equator and the wild orangutans. Wow! I would love to visit more of Indonesia's lovely islands. There are many countries in the world worth exploring and Indonesia is an excellent one for a budget minded traveler. Some people have limited knowledge of geography and country's names in particular.

Such interesting travel experiences you've had. Visiting Indonesia for many people here means going to Bali. But as you mentioned, there are much more than the beaches and night life of Bali to explore in Indonesia.
