The US unemployment figures aren't exactly accurate, because they don't count people wh o have given up on finding a job. I don't know anyone in that category, so I was wondering if any of you are.
Have you given up on finding a job? If so, what are you doing for income?

I was very lucky to have kept my job (knock on wood) throughout. I do know people that have given up looking. One couple comes to mind. The woman has 3 children from a previous marriage who have been sent to live with their father. They have a little girl between them and it appears that both of them have given up looking for work. They move around to whoever will have them for as long as they will have them. They beg and borrow off from everyone. Beyond food stamps and mooching I'm not sure where they get cash. Just the other day the guy came in and paid me 60.00 that they owed to the store. He hasn't worked in at least 3 yrs and she has been out of work for nearly a year.

I have been looking for a job for a while but the fact of the economy and my disability (majority of the applications I had to fill the required area for a disability problem). They would accept my application but won't call me back due to my disability. I still try to apply because not even the social security won't help me with my problem. People say that my disability is for them to accept me but they say due to the economy, they try too hard to find an excuse not to accept me. I work with my dad but he is also kinda retiring and barely has jobs to do. I guess I'll have to keep trying.

I stop looking for a job years ago. My last company was my last job under other people. I don't want to go through another interview, scolding or anything like that anymore after I quit my last job. I decided I had enough so I want to start my own business, which I did.
