How long does one wait to

get another dog after theirs passes away? I have one dog, who has always had him as his companion/buddy/best friend. It will be 8 weeks next week since I had to put him down, and I've started to look around at other breeds to see how he interacts with them. So far bassett hounds are not his type lol. It is very hard to see him yearn for his buddy when we go to the park and then to leave and he is sad to not have him come home with us.

It really depends on the dog you have now and how he/she is personality wise. If it's an old dog, it's not going to want to be around a puppy because puppies tend to be rambunctious and silly. Old dogs don't tolerate that well. However, you'd want to match them up so that they'll get along well and not fight. I think 8 weeks is long enough of a wait so go ahead and start looking.
