What do you all think about Homeowner's Associations telling this family that they can't have the playhouse that was recommended for Cooper by his therapists?
If you lived in the neighborhood that this family lived in, would you complain about the play house when other families have swingsets and trampolines in their back yards?
I personally think that the playhouse is a beautiful structure and that the little boy should be allowed to keep it. I can only hope that the law that his family is trying to get passed in our state will go through so that all children will be able to have things that they need regardless of where they live.

I saw the pics - wow - what a nice playhouse! I wonder why their HOA said they couldn't keep it? Is the structure too big or too distracting - or what? If the other families could have swingsets and trampolines (which would be bigger "noise makers" with the kids I would think), then I think they should be able to keep it - sheesh - and especially if it were for a medical reason! I heard there's a lot of politics that go on with HOA - it's that complex's own "governing body" - very controlling. That's why we are avoiding condos and townhomes in our search for homes - don't need someone over our heads telling us what we can or can't do with our home!

I completely agree with you on not wanting someone over you telling you what you are and are not able to do with your own home.
As far as the HOA in that situation, I believe that their bylaws say that they aren't allowed to have permanent structures on their property and the playhouse is considered to be a permanent structure while swingsets and trampolines are not.

I am not a fan of them either, I think that is the reason that we don't live in a HOA neighborhood.

I wouldn't live in one either. We live in a home that doesn't have a homeowners association and we've never really had any problems with our neighbors, except for the fact that one doesn't really like the fact that we have dogs.

I've always thought HOA's were all but communists!!! I mean, I know they want to keep the place looking nice, but it is also ALOT of people, personalities, and all that all in one place...some like it some don't. And who's to say which is right or wrong? I would never live in a place that had one. My mom does..townhouses...and she is always fighting with them and over things...stupid things they want to do and then make the homeowners pay for it! The HOA is basically just running the lives of the people that live in their "world". And then the people have to pay for it!
My mom lives in one and her sliding glass door to the patio is broken...and she can't replace it cause they won't let her replace it with anything but the same style...which they don't make anymore cause the place is 20 years old! So she can't even use her back door!

My in-laws also live in an HOA neighborhood and there was a big fuss made about their yard a couple years ago because of a tree that was in their yard (planted by the neighborhood developer when they bought their property) and the HOA said that they had to remove the tree at their expense.
