distorted views about appearances

It is sad to see how there are so many distorted views about appearances. And the harmful affect that it has on so many people especially the young generation. Whether it's dealing with anorexia, bulimia, or just thinking and feeling that they are unattractive and have to be a picture perfect person. Have you struggled with these types of feelings or known anyone close who has?

At some point in college, I have wished to look like those gorgeous celebrities. BUt I did not struggle, everything was on my mind only. And then realized that it is better to just have our natural looks.

Yeah I agree with you. It is better for us to look natural. We all have different and distinct features about us and that is what makes us who we are. I'm glad that you appreciate these things about yourself. Sometimes it does take us getting older and maturing to appreciate these aspects of ourself.

I think a lot of these distorted views about appearances are to be blamed on the media and the fashion industry where they try to show these models as being perfect with they body, their height, their faces, etc. They show these models as having perfect figures and as the desired body type that everyone wants to be like them and this can have severe problems for some such as turning bulimic or anorexic to get these perfect appearances...I haven't struggled with these problems as I am happy with my appearance even if it isn't perfect in others eyes

I agree with you. The media has a lot to do with the distorted views that so many people have about what their image should look like. A lot of people feel bad about their appearance because they aren't able to measure up to what the media and fashion industry says they should look like. Yeah I agree with you I'm happy with my appearance I don't strive to live up to what others think is a good fit for me. I like to look good and nice but I don't strive to in every way like some celebrity.

Society really does have a lot of messed up views about what is attractive. And obviously, that has really brainwashed a lot of people into having a certain view of what is attractive. Granted, you look at some people and kind of cringe about the depths they really just went in their quest to really become rather skinny. It does make me kind of cringe in horror. Perfection is really in the eye of the beholder. Still there have been a lot of people who have been called fat, who are actually rather healthy. Its just because of their height, it is a lot better distributed, but people tend to not think about these things. The damage of self esteem is really something that is really gripping. I've known people who have had breakdowns because of this and it is rather twisted.
