Have You Had One Cat More Special Than Others?

I've owned cats all my life practically, and I've loved them all. Each one unique and beautiful in it's own way. Yet, my Ginger cat, r.i.p., who passed away nearly five years ago, was the love of my life. He was what I called my "heart and soul" cat, and when he passed, a part of me died, too. He was just a bit of fluffy kitten when i first got him, and although the whole family loved him, he totally attached to me. He liked playing with my son but if I walked in the room, Ginger was right by my side. Each morning we would "share" a breakfast pastry together while I sat at the computer checking my email. He would take tiny little nibbles from one side. His picture is my screen saver on the computer. He passed away from a series of strokes - after doing better for four months. Died in my arms, the way he came in to our home. What about you? Have you had one who above all others stole your heart just a tad more?

Unlike you we haven't had cats throughout my life, but in the last two years we've decided to have cats as a part of our family. The one that stands out in my mind is our Cornbread. He came into our family almost two years ago when my daughter found him as a stray on a snowy day. I had never been a cat person, but I fell in love immediately when she brought him in to meet me and he was a part of our family for the rest of his short life. He showed me the love and compassion of cats and for that reason after he passed away, we had to add another cat to our family. Though I still miss Cornbread every day, our two cats that we have now, Peaches and Callie are a very important part of my life and because of Cornbread, I can't imagine our family not having a cat as a part of our family.

that is so neat, dorannmwin. You do find, once you take in a cat, it's difficult not to have them in your life afterwards. My mother didn't like cats and it wasn't until I moved out that I got one. 39 years later - still going cat strong!

ginger sounds like a legend! I have two cats, bonnie and clydey(was clyde but then I realised it was a litte girl!) although I love them both, Bonnie is so special! She was a rescue cat I gave a forever home too in 2007. She was a sorry looking sight with lots of shaved and bald patches where she had been mistreated, and then operated on at the vets ready to be rehomed. After a few months of care and good food she grew a fabulous long pure black coat. She has bright yellow eyes so she has grown into a real stunner! She is very much my girl and sleeps on my pillow every night! If she is outside when my car pulls up, she jumps on the bonnet as I am parking! She wants to be on my lap or with me all the time and she likes to be a 'scarf' where she wraps herself around my neck! She has never given me any trouble, but one day I came home and noticed her paw looked sore so took her straight to the vets. she had to have a few injections and they shaved her paw to take a good look at it and I cried my eyes out!

He is a legend! I love rescue cats, and think it's wonderful to give them furrever homes. She sounds like a total beauty. A friend of mine has four rescues, and one of them, Star, once needed some surgery and they shaved her fur on the side, and Keith took a photo, calling her staple/stitches her "body jewelry"!
