I have been reading about CT scans and didn't realize before how much radiation exposure one gets with this particular test. Are they safe?

CT scans have low dose of radiation which are considered safe. We should be more concerned of the help CT scans give us by way of diagnosing a disease. Without a CT scan, we really don't know if we have tumors in our internal organs. It's good to have a whole abdominal scan at least once a year to know the condition of our organs like the liver, kidneys, colon, etc. Prevention and early detection of a disease give us a healthy life.

Thanks for your comments. It appears the benefits of CT scans far outweigh the risks.

It's way more dangerous to go through the airport security scan than it is a CT scan, so I wouldn't worry. I've had several CT scans. After watching Dr. Oz I've decided if I ever fly, I'm getting a pat down, I'm not going through the scan. I don't really want to be patted down by someone, but he says the radiation from the scans can potentially be harmful down the toad.

Thanks so much for your reassurance. So much of what I read on the internet make the CT scans out to be very dangerous.
