How can you convince your boss?

Last Monday, we had a meeting with our boss. He asked us why we should have our salary increase. We said that everything is getting expensive and our salary is not enough to make a living. If you were in our situation, What would you say to convince him?

I think such negotiations are quite tricky. If there is an abundance of labor available in the open market, then just mentioning the overall market expenses and inflation does not really help. You might need to show that an increase in salary would mean some additional input from your side which might help the company or something like that. Basically, you need to prove to the boss that this is a win-win situation for both the company and for you. Cheers! Ram

Present him with facts. Your reason should be based on accurate calculation. I am sure he will evaluate it. With written fact he wll learn that what you said was true.

I think that is quite difficult to do. I have to make a survey and come up with a calculation to convince him. I know that this is what a boss really wants, facts. This is really a great idea to tell him that we need salary increase. Thanks for your suggestion. Happy mylotting!

You too, bro. I did the same as you did. But before I told my boss, I already had got the facts that salaries had to be raised. Have a good weekend.

Seems like you really prepared yourself before asking to your boss. So, did he increase your salary then?

What you are suggesting is that your boss increases the costs of running his business. Has your productivity improved? Is there more work for you to do because of increases in business? Remember he cannot come up with more money out of thin air. If you know for sure that business has improved to a degree where your work is earning your boss a better turnover then you deserve a raise but if not...do not expect anything.

Unfortunately, we do not have salary increase this year. Our boss decided not to increase it. He said that his expenses is almost the same as his profit. I don't know if he is telling a truth. I just give him the benefit of doubt. Hopefully next year, our wish will be granted.

firstly, we are much more skilled than before, we can bring in more money for the company than before, so as return, we need to be paid more than before; secondly, the cost for living have been increased so much, in order to have more attention in work not in life struggling, we need to get more money so that we do not need to distract our attention. do you think what I am suggesting useful?

Yes, I agree with you. Everything now has increased tremendously. So we need more money to make a life. Our skills have improved compared before. I think it means that we are more valuable now than before. I like your suggestions. These are very useful reasons to have salary increase. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

That is the same reason me and colleagues have told my boss before. Because at that time, everything rises, from rent, transpo and food.

Yes, everything now is getting expensive. Food, transportation etc. Our salary is not quite enough to buy all the things we need. It is really hard to convince them to increase our salary. It seems like they are allergic on this thing. Happy mylotting!
