Do We really need Religion to be happy ?

" I would die without God, the creator, I need him!" Well, I tried to convince my friend, it's not God the creator, it's God, the created! Most people grow, creating a God inside of their minds, due to the religious atmosphere around them. They find peace and joy in worshipping and trusting that God. I understand that centuries ago, people had to imagine a supernatural power, because of lack of knowledge. But now that we know, it is only the world of science that can answer our questions. Isn't it high time that we put this crab aside and get rid of all the trouble they create for us.All the time and money that is wasted for these Things ! Alas !

Speaking about religion... Just considers the problems in todays world, Most of the problem are associated with religion like terrorism, wars, mid east region crisis, the iran israel problem etc. just imagine if religion was eliminated from the world 90% of all the problems would have been solved.(just for the sake of good)

well what i have to say here is religion is quite important in maintaining peace around the world yes it has caused terrorism as well but imagine many people believe in goodness and badness just because of religion and if it was not involved in there life A lot verse could have happened in this world because concept of Good n evil is developed by religion.

@living Religion is used as a basis as an excuse for terrorism and other evils, and wars are caused by men. If we were all living as we should and in accordance with God's word, there would not be all this turmoil in the world.

I would disagree. I think science can't answer any of the fundamental questions of life. Why are you here? Why is there pain? Why do you feel alone? Why do people hurt each other, even when they are supposed to love each other? G-d is not the created. Science is the created. We made it up. But science is merely what we observe. Even then, what we observe, tells us very little. For example gravity. We observe gravity, but why does it exist? How does it exist? What makes it work? Even on things we do know a little about, like electricity. We know that there are electrons, and that some electrons can escape the atoms they were attached to, and move through conductive material. But why? Why can they be released? Why can some have more than they need? Where did they come from? What makes the other electrons stay, while these go? We have laws for how electrons work, but these laws are simply what we observe. We don't know 'why' they do this, only that they do. The problem with this idea is, everything in science, inherently all applies to those things we can observe. As a Christian, we believe in something that can not be observed scientifically. We believe in a creator that made the laws, that you observe.

To sum it up you are saying that you believe in the god of the gaps. Sadly, if you do your god is shrinking as human knowledge pushes back ignorance and the gaps get smaller and smaller.

No, actually as more and more information comes out, it proves to me more and more the truth that G-d has revealed. I enjoy science more than most. I can spend hours reading up on genetics, physics, nuclear science. Everything I have read and learned shows that G-d's word is correct. The more I learn, the more I have faith in His truth. Science never contradicts G-d, but rather confirms Him. Most of those who claim otherwise, really don't understand science very well. This is why, whenever you see a debate between a Atheists and Christians on science, you normally don't see the Atheist debating that scientific facts, but rather on things like "but 'everyone' believes...." or "... all scientists say".... or " the majority has said". In short the main justification is a poll number. As if truth is determined by majority in science.

There is a key word you have used in your heading. That word is "NEED". People worship and believe what they will because they need to. Many will always need to believe in something, pray to something, worship something. They need to follow the crowd like sheep. They need to have a personal relationship with their God or whatever it is they believe in. Don't look down on believers, people with faith. Respect them and go about your own life in peace and harmony.

Here is the catch ! I dont like to look down on believers and i would definitely respect them and would not bother them and would live my life in peace and harmony But these believers don't live us alone, they are the ones who interfere in others life and force others to believe what they are believing and this is where the problem arises ! If need was the only reason and they would force other to do so then there would not have been this problem ever and no one would be talking about it either.

I believe in God, and know Him. God is not a religion nor a mere imagination. People usually connect God to religion and think that they are the same, but their not. Knowing God is not religion for only man made religion, not God. God built relationship, which is the very opposite of religion. Man made a set of rules and practices that are ought to be followed, which is religion. God is for relationship not rules. If a person does not really know God (having intimate relationship with Him) he would either be a religious person (obeying so many rules without his heart in it) or an atheist (a person who does not believe in God). It's really up to the person if he really wants to know God, because if he wills it then God will reveal Himself to him, like what happened to me. I know, encountered, and experience God, like how you know your friends/relatives, that's why I don't just believe in God but also know Him.

Well, I'm a Muslim, I'm really proud to be one, and I'm happy for that. I need God in my life to remind me of everything I do. And nothing can change my faith. However, I don't want to be one of those maniacs who do stupid things in the name of religion. No religion teaches us to harm others. Hurting people won't make us happy. In this case, yes, I agree with you that I "create" God within my heart and my mind to keep me in peace. Peace also comes from the mind and the heart. Just like in "Eat Pray Love" Liz said that "God dwells within me, as me". If your mind and heart are so full of hatred and anger, there's no need of saying that you believe in God. I won't say anything about those people who don't hold any religion, it's their right. :) And actually, happy or not happy depend on our mind and heart. I hope that answer your question. Lol.

@misspiggy That is the difference in the true believers of Christ and the "religious" people. Children of God are not maniacs running around killing and plotting evil. I believe that knowing and accepting God is the key to not only my happiness, but to world peace and well being.

hi livinggod29,my opinion is ,no need of religion to be happy, the god(creator) has been created by man for his purposes like,if he was happy to express his happiness he needs some body , happiness can be shared to his friends, family members etc,but when he was in sad and he is in help man try to say to the creator for help and find the solutions for his problems.god has been created for telling his miseries, problems etc and he created a hope for himself as the creator may help him .

gnanasekhar God was not created by man. Couldn't be, as He was here before man. A lot of people only seem to call on His name in times of trouble, but for a true Christian, God is there all the time.

Hi livinggod, I don't think that we need religion to be happy, indeed religion causes a lot of unhappiness. What we do need is a healthy respect for each other and open mind. Blessings.

Yes, some people need religion to be happy, while other need God to feel happiness. I am perfectly alright with both type of people. We all are created different physically and emotionally. Some people i known can be happy without religion but just an iPod or a juke-box will do the trick.

The world of science does little more than prove the Bible. When it tries to prove things in the Bible are not true, they usually end up creating false proof, such as the black moth in Darwin's theories. Turned out the moth's were fed metallic salts. The salts made it turn black. Hardly a metamorphosis that usually takes thousands of years. All I have to do is look around at the glories of this world and I know there is a God. The destruction comes from man and science.

Hi! I just wonder why you said that. I stand in my belief that God has created everything. We may not understand everything there is about Him, because our thoughts are not His thoughts, but I still believe there is a God the Creator. It's the religion that people has created. People of centuries ago don't lack knowledge. They wouldn't have built the tower of Babel if they did lack knowledge. Cheers!

@neelia Everything that God created was good, so wars and terrorism is not born of God. I agree with you, people created religion, and that is why it is flawed.

different people have different thoughts. in my opinion, nothing is absolute in this world. and as we know, there is no God, and with the answer of science, we know that there is nobody creat the world, every problem could solved by science. this is only the thoughts of nowadays, but how about one hundred years later? one thousand years later? and even thousands of years later? what the world will be, and what's the opinoins of people live in that age. maybe the existence of God is proved at that time. when i was young, my grandmother brought me to the temple and pray for me. in my hometown, this is a traditional customs. and our God is different with you, our God is eastern God, such as Guanyin. and with the God, some people that trust God will live more comfortable, make them feel safety, more then happy. and for others who don't trust them. just live with you heart. like me, when i graw up, especially when i get into the school, i know the science, i am not trusting the God so much, but i still go to the temple to pray sometimes. finally, i am sorry for my bad english.

@QHLY130 I do not know any such thing! I believe that there IS one God. Science does not solve all the problems of the world. They have theories and can change their results any time they want to. The existence of God has already been proven to me. if you do not trust in it, why do you bother to go to temple to pray. There is no need for you to apologize for your English, but please understand if any of us don't quite understand your meaning and ask you to clarify something you have said. If that happens, know that it is not meant as an insult to you.

Religion is just a group of worshiper created by people. God is real because of reason. Plato said that the highest degree of reality is what you percieved with your reason and I believe him. Asked yourself who make this world for us people to live. You may think that there's a highest and powerful being who did it. We may not be able to see that being(God) but we know that he exist and always watching us. In my perspective, we don't need to go to the church just to call him because he/she can hear us all the time where ever we are.

First of all, welcome to mylott. It looks as tho you are new here. There are alot of wars about religion, but that is where it all started in the Old Testament. God wanted the people to look at no other God's, so He would harden people's hearts of other nations against another nation so that there would be wars to defend His name. He wanted people to understand that you don't make a God from a piece of wood that came from the tree he created in the first place.

@living I don't need "religion" in order to be happy, but I do need God as He controls my life. I don't follow you. You said you needed God, but then you said that we know that it is only the world of science who can answer our questions. Everything we need to know, we learn from God and trusting Him. I don't trust science. Scientists change their theories and results. God stays the same.

i believe not. i have little belief in religion. some religion rules people to unite while some religion rules division. they make people mind get confuse. for me i believe only in God alone. there are any religious teaching but they are only written by people supposedly inspire by God. but i believe people could be happy even without religion as long as they know to respect each other belief.

In future it would be difficult to live according to the rules and belief of religions alone. On the other hand religions are relying many inventions and discoveries made by science. Applying scientific methods man can understand more about mysteries and law of universe. Science itself is searching facts related to mighty universal power.
