Talking about yourself

I am not terribly comfortable talking about myself. I always say that the best way to get to know me is to ask me essay questions but it's really not, unless you are someone with whom I am extremely comfortable. Mostly, I prefer to write about myself. If you ever want to know anything about me, you can probably find it on my Facebook or blog because I'm much more comfortable with written words and don't feel like I sound dumb, which I usually do when I'm talking. Does anyone else have this problem? Would you rather write about yourself or talk?

I'm really not that comfortable to talk about myself and it never came into my mind that I should brag about my achievements. I find it so pathetic if I talk about myself in front of others. The same thing goes on Facebook. Facebook for me is over-rated, but I also hate it when I talk about myself. I prefer that it would be others who will talk about me.

Yes most people dont feel at ease speaking about themselves. This often happens in interviews where a candidate is asked to give a personal profile. Its embarrassing to having to pat our own back or throw filth at our own face. Its wonderful to speak about others,of course good deeds only

Hello crimsonlady I diffinately prefer writing about myself more then talking about myself. I feel that I can better express myself through my writing more then talking. When you write you can go back and erase whatever you didnt want to say. When you talk you can't exactly do that. As a writer I deffinately feel more comfortable writing then speaking.

We are the same actually. I'd rather write about myself than talk about myself. Writing is easier for me in a sense that I'm comfortable expressing myself with it. This is really not a problem because a lot if people feel the same way as we do. :)

I sort of do too. It's funny because you meet some people who just can't SHUT UP about themselves; and then there are people like me and you who don't really care for that kind of stuff. I don't really like either - talking OR writing. Ha. I guess if I had to pick between the two I would say writing of course, because then you have time to articulate and think about what you're going to say and whatnot. But I generally try to re-focus the discussion back on the other person.... On that note..So....Are you enjoying MyLot?

Hi I have the same problem. I really hate to talk about myself. I'm job searching, and when I go to an interview,I really hate it because they'll say "So, Tell me about yourself". I feel like having a spazz out, because they put me on the spot to tell them about me. When they say that, they don't want to hear about your personal life, they want to know about your experiences in the professional world. I have none. I usually don't hear from them again after the interview.

I have that same problem in the interviews. That's the worst because I really don't have a lot of outstanding professional experience either, plus it's talking to a stranger. Good luck on your job search!

I'm more likely to be able to write about myself with more ease. The written word has always been something that is much easier for me. I don't know, I just feel like I come across a slightly scatter brained when I am talking in a high tensions situation. If I don't get too creative, I think that I can get some words together, but it can be an uphill battle. Writing is really just something that is always been much easier for me to do. I just feel like a natural born writer. That's just how my thoughts flow, that's just how I do it. Plus there is no backspace button when you speak, so there is that, why I find it rather easier. I think that if I wrote out my thoughts without any editing, it would be like the written form of babbling.

It's good that you like to write about yourself. I don't do it often, I'm more a listener. I can listen other people's stories without adding things about myself. But I like what you say. It doesn't matter whether you speak or right, when you share things about you, it means that you think about what you are, you explore your personality. Good luck with your blog.

I think its quite normal for some people being not comfortable talking about themselves. Its quite common usually to those people who are introvert but to some they just don't like to get to a point where they would be talking about themselves not knowing if the people they are talking to are interested about what they are talking about. But i think its also a good thing that you found a way on how you could express yourself even if is just through words. I also have the same experience as you do but im glad that i also found a way on how to express my thoughts and ideas here in mylot.

I think I also like writing better, but actually I am the kind of talkative person. However, I often think that too much talking about ourselves are almost close to arrogance. Lol. I can explain something quite well more because that's what I do, I'm a teacher. :D But I rarely write anything about me on my facebook. :)

I have the problem too, I would rather not talk about myself either. I just don't feel comfortable and feel like I'm boring someone. I would rather answer those written questions.

No, I don't like talking about myself. IT'S HARD! I have difficulties of writing about me in every site or in a piece of paper. Not only writing but also saying and talking about myself. No words can describe me! LOL
