If Zombies Took Over The World

I've been watching the TV show The Walking Dead, and I have been wondering what would be the best way to survive in a world over run by zombies? I assume shelter would be important but what kind of shelter could you live in without worrying about getting trapped. Food and protection would also be important. Who can come up with the best plan for this end of the world scenario?

The best place to hide might be an old '60's bomb shelter except by now most of the stored food might have been removed or gone bad. Plus you'd have to worry if any zombies were waiting when you went out. Probably the best place to hide might be in one of the old missile silos in Kansas left over from the cold war. But again you'd have to go out and get food plus you'd need to do something to light the area since there's no electric.

Food becomes a problem all the time. A missile silo does sound like it would be secure, but is there a way to access the outside without running into a horde of zombies. Military basis in general seem to be a good idea because they can be easily secured. The only problem is the military might be more inclined to push survivors away than help them. If you did find a secure location with plenty of food how would you defend it against invaders.

You think of military bases as being secure but I'm not sure how secure the modern ones are. In 1995 I lived outside Fort Stewart in Georgia which is a large base that's been there since WW II. I was surprised that there was a state highway that ran through the base and you could drive through without being stopped at guard house. Some of the base resembled a college with dormitory-like buildings. I later went on the base with a neighbor and bought liquor at the camp PX. In the early '90's I also drove through the Presideo in San Francisco when I think it was still open as a base. Again you could drive right through it.
Kansas would seem like a good idea to go to because it is less populated and so there would likely be fewer zombies. The negative would be that there would be fewer stores to scavenge from and also the winters could be brutal due to snow.

I see your point about Kansas. I was thinking military basis on the off chance you could gain access to a helicopter or some type of vehicle to explore the area safely, but if they are that open it might not be such a good idea. What do you think about building a network of tree houses in a large forest area. The height could keep people a safe distance from zombies, and the forest itself could supply food and water. The draw back would be the trees would make it harder to spot a horde of zombies, and it would take time to build the tree houses.

well that would be quite funny and interesting at the same time because they would run shows of their own and do their own ways of zombie methods
