it is very unfortunate that some people get something from deceit and theft. there several steps on how to prevent identity theft, but these are not fool-proof as the thieves are getting more sophisticated. the first one is to avoid divulging personal data from anyone especially online. tear up or keep the personal records to yourself. have a strong anti-spyware installed in your laptop or pc.

I have a friend who had a rather large amount of money taken from her bank account by a company to whom she accidentally gave her bank details on the internet. She was charged £300 for something which should have cost her no more than a couple of pence. That being said, she has now had her money returned to her, so that is good because it was money that she just couldn't afford to lose. You should be very careful about how much you disclose on the internet, because it honestly doesn't take much for someone to be able to take money from you.

Being careful about giving your personal information out to people is always a good start. Also it is important to really understand that no one will ever e-mail you, requesting personal information. Or call you on the phone. No banks, no credit card companies, not even Microsoft. There has been a lot of problems with phishing schemes or schemes used by people to really get personal information. Also anything with information that you receive in the mail, you don't file for personal use, it should be burned. And there have been many cases where people dig through trash. I think that the best thing is to just use your common sense. Which sadly is not as common as we would like to think it is anymore. It is just the sad nature of everything. Identity theft will never be stomped out, but only give out information to the most trusted and secure sources and even then there will be doubt.

Identity theft can be prevented if we are going to be cautious on where are we going to register our information. Most of the common reason why Identity Theft are increasing it's because we are not aware of how we protect ourselves.

I gues hte government should have a very strict rule to consider a document to be valid. In this way, even if there is an identity theft the criminals would find the informations they harvest as useless. If the government imposed a very secure system, then this identity theft can be stop. We all should be vigilant in giving our personal details especially online.
