Ponting was forced to announce his retirement from the selectors in the middle of the series... It doesn't surprise me because i know the way in which Australia treat their player, the attitude they shown to Steve waugh is good lesson for australian players.. Ponting in the press conference announced his retirement saying that, he is retiring, because he know he is not going to be a part of the coming world cup team.. Also I felt that he was requesting the selectors to give him chance in test till coming ASHES.. Do you think Australian team will benefit from the retirement of a player in the middle of the series.. I don't feel that dropping a player(part of 3 WC win) in the middle of a series is a good approach, should have given a good farewell. Surely they have the bench strength, will they be able to use it in coming matches and win the series??

Even though Ponting was not playing well the other members played superbly, Ponting's Out of form was not affected to the team. Aussies will now get a chance to play one batsmen who is in form, so it will definitely make their team stronger, and a good chance for them to win. But as you said, dropping a player in between the series is not good, that too against their WC winning captain. Aussies should have rested him for 2-3 matches and make him a way to retire in a good manner by playing a match in home land.

Yes, dropping ponting in the middle of the series is not good but it won't affect australia's performance in the series. Nowadays many senior players are forced to announce their retirement by their cricket board. it is really a bad pratice to treat a player who win many matches for them. especially in ponting case it's too bad..

ya thats what me too feels.. surely Australia is always having Good bench strength so they will not feel the absence of ponting as a player.

Well ! For ponting retirement i just say he is not happy with his retirement at all because till his age he is good fielder and not doubt the good batsman but the batting performance in this series is not upto the mark... So i thing the selector tell him now it time to leave the team in one day Sarina and just say like a batsman of ponting it is very shame because he was giving the announcement of retirement during the series, no one give him farewell party which he deserve after so long contribution in oz cricket... it is so harsh to the batsman when some one who is so many player role model was retire like this, i didnot thing it will make some difference in oz camp... But if ponting is their he makes some difference in the team wining ration with his captaincy and fielding...

i don't think that Pontings retirement will help Australia in this series but it is good decision by ponting to take retirement at the right time.but this retirement will help Australia in future series where new talent will come in the place of ponting.but it is very difficult fill the place of ponting in that team. he is very good batsman.and Australia now really need Good Batsman.

there is a time for every one to retire..........this is his time.he was a very good one day player.he lead australia to win two world cups during his captaincy, this feat was achieved first by clive lyod of west indies.ponting was a great contemporary to other great players of modern times. and he himself said that he wanted to completely focus on test matches .it is good that he has addressed retirement from ODI's

evry onr should retire at one time.. but this kind of forced retirement is not the fair way to do to a two time WC winning captain. But Australians(including ponting) Dont know the meaning of fair cricket.. So he can expect this from his board..
