Hair Testing for Food Allergies - Pork & Eggs!

I recently sent off a hair sample (around 20 strands under an inch in length) to a local Homeopath and he tested for food allergies as I often suffer from digestive discomfort, migraines, asthma, allergies and various other ailments at any given time (I'm a mess, I know). I went to see him yesterday and he has told me that I am allergic to Pork & Eggs and intolerant to butter/margarine spreads. I have no problem cutting out pork (and noticed recently that I had moderate abdominal discomfort after having had some ham sandwiches), or switching to real butter instead of spreads - eggs however are a different story. We have quail at home and eat their eggs, he tested for those and they are ok, but there are eggs in so many food products! I love mayonnaise and am no culinary magician who can whip up her own batch every time she wants a plate of chips! Does anyone have any experience with hair testing for food allergies? Does anyone here have any experiences with allergies to either pork or eggs?

I had no idea that they could test your hair for allergies! That is amazing! The last allergy test I heard of was the pricking a million times one. My daughter has allergies but it is skin irritations. She can't wear belts because the buckle breaks her out in a perfect buckle shaped rash. We had to use certain detergent too. I remember once that we went to Bath and Body Works and she got in to some samples they had there and tested some perfume. Her eyes, feet, and hands swelled up so bad we had to go to the hospital!

Hey Jen, just find yourself a reputable homeopathy clinic that will perform the tests for you. If there's none nearby, most will allow you to post and mail/ring you back with the results. I got a very comprehensive result from them including deficiencies, allergies/intolerances and a recommendation for a thorough detox as I had a buildup of stuff in my system I could do with clearing out from continued medication for migraines etc. Sorry to hear of the severity of your daughter's allergies, it's never easy.

Very interesting discussion--I am going to look into doing this. I know I have a food allergy to onions and the onion family, but I suspect I may have additional food allergies or intolerances that I haven't figured out yet because I often get migraines or have stomach trouble and can't pinpoint a cause. My mother was allergic to eggs (not severely, thank goodness) and it is a tough one. Some vaccines such as the flu vaccines often have eggs in the formula, so watch out for that, too. Best of luck.

Thanks Suzieqmom. The eggs in the flu vaccine would help to explain why I was always very ill after every vaccine. I've stopped getting them and now that I know that I have an intolerance to eggs I'll continue to steer clear of them. Let us know how you get on Suzieqmom, hopefully the hair sample testing might find you some answers to your stomach trouble and migraines.

Pork - I don't eat this.
This is the first time I heard about hair testing. It sounds very interesting and I like the whole idea. I learned something new from your post. thanks!I think hair testing is highly recommended to people who suffer discomfort after eating certain food. It is better to be sure if they have allergies so they can totally avoid consuming that food. I have no allergies with any kind of foods so far but I myself do refrain from eating a lot of food which I know are not healthy. One the foods I avoid is pork, hotdog, processed meat and the likes.

You're welcome, glad I could enlighten someone :) We generally tend to avoid processed foods as much as is feasible in this house and I'm sure that when I have children of my own I will become a lot more strict as to what food comes into the house. There's so much junk in processed food and it's lost half its nutrition by the time it gets to your plate...
