with a standard sized poodle. He seems to like the long-legged breeds since his last girlfriend was a doberman pincher.
He has gone totally loony over my landlady's poodle and the poodle seems to reciprocate his attentions. Since he can't give babies and she can't have them, it is the perfect arrangement, with one tiny problem...their humans don't take them visiting each other nearly enough.
My little guy sits out on the back deck staring at his beloved's house, hoping against hope, she will come out. He knows that at five o'clock her owner takes her out to play chase the ball. Good Boy is adamant about watching her fluid movements over the grounds as she brings the ball back to her human. I can practically hear him sigh with longing.
She came with her owner to deliver our mail the other day. Good Boy and his lady were ecstatic upon seeing each other. Immediately, they began to play only to be brought up short when she was pulled away toward home. Good Boy moped until his five o'clock appointment out on the deck.
Has your pet ever been so madly in love?

That is so sweet!! I had a mini Dachshund in love with a Saint Bernard once. It lasted until the Bernard slipped up and stepped on the Dachshund. He limped around for a couple of days, and then he didn't show anymore interest in the Bernard. I couldn't get it through to him that there was a huge difference in their ages, but that didn't make any difference...age didn't matter to him. Fortunately he wasn't able to produce children as was the Saint Bernard. So the love affair was okay until that fateful step.
Right now Abby is in love with a Lab who lives two doors up from me. It wouldn't be a good match because the Lab's parents are very fussy and domineering. So, it has to be an unrequited love. Especially since I have had words with the Lab's woman owner. She (the owner) is one to force what she wants on people. If you don't snap too and do what she wants she screams and yells and forces you to do things her way. To say she is overbearing is putting it mildly. So, any romance between the dogs is impossible. But I think Abby knows that and doesn't push the romance.

How incredibly sad. Unrequited love is such a pain to our dear doggies. His love's owners think he is a lovely fellow. It's just that we humans are not as social as the dogs. I'm so glad the dachshund wasn't squish too badly.
Hugs,
Maggie

Good Boy is a terrific dog. He bounces all over the place when he wants to play, which reminds me of Tigger in the Winnie the Pooh series. He has an excellent personality, loves people and smaller dogs especially. He protects both, but in a gentle way, not forceful or mean.
When it comes to Rottweillers, however, the silly little dog things THEY ARE THE ENEMY. I can't convince him he's not even a good mouthful, if he gets one upset.
Another case of a big dog in a little package. lol
Hugs,
Maggie
