do you take anything to help you sleep at night? I was on a prescribed medicine that I took for several months before I quit taking anything at all and just give my body and mind a rest for a bit but someone mentioned a natural, safe herb in pill/vitamin form, I just can't remember what the name of it was and I have searched high and low and just can't find it, anybody know of a natural sleep aid to help with my restless nights?

I have a hard time getting to sleep too. Two natural over-the-counter supplements I have used are Melatonin and Valerian. What also works for me is diphenhydramine (antihistamine) because it makes me sleepy. I used to be prescribed sleep medication, but I didn't like it long term. I thought it was addictive and I also had a lot of trouble getting up the next morning. Hope this helps!

I don't know about the medicine and I never turn to sleeping pills for my sleep, instead, I take deep breaths right after I go to bed. First I take in as much air as possible and hold my breath for as long as possible before I breathe it out. After doing this several times, I fall asleep before I know it. I hope my experience can help you.

Make sure you avoid any food or drink that contains caffeine, no matter how small the quantity is, at least an hour or so before you sleep. Instead try drinking Chamomile tea. This has some sedative effect. Do some light exercises, even just walking around your house, might help also. And your room should be as comfortable as possible without any clutter and have no strong odors even if it's nice-smelling to you. Unless it's of a lavender scent since this also has some calming effect when you inhale it. I hope these tips help. Sleep is really very important to us :)

I always sleep better in the warmer parts of the year. I find if I am to cold I will not fall asleep. So I always keep my room 1 or 2 degrees above comfortable when I am getting ready to go to sleep. The problem is I never can get more than 4 hours of sleep. So I just try taking a nap later in the day and that is the best solution I have found. That is the problem with everyone's lives getting so complicated. Life just seems to get more stressful each day, and people have so much on their mind that it effects their sleeping habits.

I do not suppose it is good for you to take the meditions. Just try to listen to light music and also try to calm down without thinking anything complicated. Maybe you would find it works.Cause this does really works for me.Hopefully this will help.

Hi and a happy day to all! I think you have to go to specialist to help you in your sleeping problem. If you been taking medicines just to help you sleep then sooner or later it will make you addicted to it and its so sad that you can't sleep without them. There are natural way to help you but it won't really take effect immediately. Follow a step by step procedure and don't feel frustrated if it doesnt help the first or second night. 1. Write your worries, get a book and pen and its good for you to have your self and quiet time to do this. It will make you relax and those worries will come out in your mind. 2. Take a look at your body and nutrition. Are you eating fruits and vegetables. Those food have lots of vitamins and minerals that will help you healthy. Get berries and red colored fruits. 3. Drink warm milk before bed. Wear loose fitting and comfortable clothes. 4. Have a dim light in the room, never have a t.v inside the room or any gadgets like your phone and computer. Try to do it because they will set your mind to answer messages or chats that makes you worry. 5. Confront your fears and any anxiety problems. 6. If things not doing good yet, consult a specialist. Wishing you to have a healthy sleep every night.

I have never really taken anything to sleep until recently. I just always got back up and watched tv or got back on my laptop and then would try again later. I take a sleep aid very seldomly. I don't want to have to have one. My mom and daughter have taken one as long as I can remember. I hate it that my daughter needs one, bless her heart. I can understand my mom taking one. She needs help sleeping anyway. I hope you find out what it is that will help you naturally.

No I dont take any medicines for sleep. Though I have been prescribed. I took some of those last year and felt that they only dulled my brain, made me sick and feel duller for more than 22 hours a day... GRRR! I cant sleep or live with that dullness and hangover kind of feeling. So gave them up. To find better sleep, I think you should relax and stay stress free. I think you have got into the bad habit of thinking too much when in bed... I did so too. Then found that a little bath with luke warm water before going to bed works wonders for me. But today, I still work late night due to time zone differences and hence I am back to my sleeplessness (if you consider only the sleep at night to be counted) Otherwise I sleep about 6 - 8 hours a day... which I consider more than enough for me.

I don't have a solution but I also have a hard time sleeping at night and it really isn't fun. I can feel super tired and I just won't be able to fall asleep. The best way for me is to turn on the tv just as background noise and that usually helps. If I just lay in bed I could be there for 30 minutes to an hour. I think the biggest problem is that once I lay down and get comfortable I just start thinking and can't stop. I have been thinking about getting sleeping pills but I just don't know yet. If someone could give us that natural way that would be a life saver or a sleep saver lol.
