problematic with my pitbull's skin

hi everyone! we have 2 pitbulls at home and have 1 common problem with them: dry-itchy skin. i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong with my dogs because even if i'm careful with their diet, give them a bath with a medicated soap, constantly clean their area and visit the vet regularly i still see my pitbulls scratching more than usual. we've consulted with our vet the first time we had a pitbull because it came to a point where his body lost almost all his hair and instead covered with little blood clots on the outer layer of his skin that would bleed once scratched. the breeder we got him from wasn't cooperative in giving us any health history. i felt really sad for Chuck so i religiously followed his prescription from the vet. this happened to him when he was 6month old and took 4months to recover. now our female pitbull whose 1yr 3months is also having an itchy skin but in her case the skin is dry. as much as possible i keep watch that she doesn't rub and scratch her back against the wall cause it bleeds. now i'm trying to search for an alternative solution than bringing her to our vet and i bet that i'll be spending much money with antibiotics and other medications which i don't mind but i feel is not healthy for our dog if we depend on it. so does anyone ever had this problem and what can you suggest? please help.

You could try an oatmeal dog shampoo. Make sure you rinse him well. If soap is left on his skin it will cause dandruff and itching. Make sure he doesn't have fleas. If he does give him a flea bath. Brush him well to remove some of the dandruff. Pitbulls have sensitive skin and they are prone to getting mange. You should have it checked out to make sure it isn't mange.

thank you for that advice java09, i'm planning to have her skin tested at the vet so we know what we're dealing with. i just hope it's not that bad (fingers crossed)

Check to see how much phosphorous is in their food as well as in the treats. Baths too often can rob dogs of natural oils. That could be an issue especially if you are using a medicated shampoo.
