there is this one instructor of ours who usually tells us his story during his college days. i will just restate this. during our college days, our instructor will not teach us everything so we are hardly finding a way to learn the topics and finish our requirement even if not discussed. that's what our instructor said to us. in my mind, what would you that to us. i don't know if this instructor was lazy and he didn't want to teach us our lesson and i feel that we left behind in our topics. or he only wants to teach us to work more hard so that we can easily understand what he is discussing.

Unfortunately, you'll find lots of teachers like that in college. They usually disguise their motives saying you need to learn from experience and mistakes, they most likely don't even know how to teach. I've had teachers who you could tell knew a lot (I mean a LOT) but they just didn't have the ability to teach... it's very common.

yeah it is very common, however i only knew one in our college who is like this and the bad news is that it is our major teacher and i don't like it. our minor teacher have the ability to teach us very well.

In spite of everything, you can still use it as an opportunity to learn. You'll also be prepared for the next time you encounter a teacher like that. It's not a very good situation, I'm just trying to see the glass half full, you know.

I think that as college students, your teacher merely informs you or try to convey that you are nearly adults, and being so, you should be able to take more responsibility in your studies. You should be proactive and not be always or too reliant on the teacher. It's not a sign of laziness or ignorance, it's a sign of acknowledgement that that you are able to think and work on your own without supervision or instruction to do so. In his view, the teacher considers you as adults, albeit you are still in schooling. Not all college teachers are alike nor equal. Some are effective and some are not. I once ditched my whole class when the teacher was so boring, I could lull myself to sleep. I took a proactive move and switched classes because I knew that I’m not gonna learn from that teacher. Being treated as a adult but still a student gives you the power and the freedom on making your own decision, rather than placing them at the teacher’s behest.

The modus operendus of teaching differs from teacher to teacher . May be your instructor wants to make your lessons easy by relating examples from his college days . If you are not comfortable with his way of imparting education you should speak to him and tell him clearly that you are not understanding the chapters and lagging behind in studies . You should first talk to your fellow class mates and find out whether they are facing the same situation . If so , you can unitedly talk to him after your classes and get things clarified . Wish you all the best

I agree that every teacher is different. Maybe he is concerned that since you are college students, you have to become independent in the way you study. Some teachers expect you to know everything, but don't teach everything, they rather tell you in which books you can read about it. This should be okay, as long as they let you know what they would expect on the exam. If his expectations are not clear, it's better to ask others and the teacher too.
