I am living in Mackay in Central Queensland - right near the Whitsundays...over the weekend, we had a deluge of rain which has caused localised flooding but nothing too severe...on the news tonight, they said it was only a hint for what's in store for us in March...i was here in 2008 when the town had major flooding. I have been told mby neighbors that the area where i am living didn't get effected like we did where I was living but it's always in the back of my head...I know that there are a few mylotters from Queensland who have survived the floods we have had the past few wet seasons...have you been through a natural disaster? When the years bring more threats of natural disasters occurring, how do you cope?

I live in the South Eastern part of the United States and we have hurricane season. The hurricanes come inland and usually cause tornado's. In April of 2011 my sister and her family lost EVERYTHING to a tornado. They barely escaped their home before it got blown away. My sister's leg was sprained really bad and her hubby had to have over 300 stitches/staples in his head, my niece was the least affected because Nick covered her. My niece did end up getting a flying remote control right on the forehead. The impression lasted for a couple of months. The emotional trauma still happens for my sister to this day. Whenever a strong storm blows up she is so nervous. They constantly leave home and go to his cousin's house to stay in the basement until it passes. She is the weather girl for our family, if something is going to happen weather wise she is sending out a mass text to everyone. I love her dearly but I wish I could take away that fear she has. As far as my own personal experience, in the early 90's we had a huge hurricane come inland that actually did major damage and knocked out the power to my neighborhood and surrounding areas for over a week. There was so much damage that the power crews worked 24/7 repairing lines. Fortunately no damage was done to any of our property but it was very scary to drive around the next day and see some of the areas/folks that were not so lucky. I hope your area will survive.

The climate I have here closely resembles FL as we get alot of hurricanes too but luckily not all of them reach the coast. i really can relate to your sister because when it starts raining heavy, it's always in the back of my head if it's gonna flood again or not...luckily we don't get too many tornadoes here.

hi moonchild1au I have never been through flooding as here in Southen California we are more oftentoo dry but four years ago we had wild fires so close to where we lived that the air was full of smoke and ahes and debris. We were told to close all windows in our homes and use air conditioning. bills went up and my allergies did too.We ducked the flames when the wind changes and blew the fire into the canyons.I hope you do not have those horredhous flooding they are predicting.

Wow!! i know my climate here is similar to yours but I guess it closely resembles FL as we get a few hurricanes each year (if they reach the coast or not is another story). I do remember the wild fires CA had a few years ago...sad that alot of people lost their houses...I can only just imagine how bad your allergies were.
