we know fighting games is one of the most popular video game genres and one of the iconic fighting games is Street Fighter. Street fighter has been around for 25 years and still going strong. You dont have to be a fan of fighting games to enjoy this discussion , cos its only about the controversy of a certain character, The "woman" in the picture below is Poison. She is the most controversial fighting game character ever. watch youtube videos about her, you will see people debating. If Chun-li is the first female fighting game character in history. Poison is the first female fighting game character who is born a man. her gender has been a long debate. In every video game messageboard, there is always a thread debating about her. She/He is not originally a street fighter character but when the game series were she came from ended. she is absorbed in the cannon.I never saw a character as controversial as her cos people crazily debates about her. Why people debate about her? well there are men who are in denial of her gender cos they found her attractive so they keep on pushing that she is a woman. They cant accept the fact they found her attractive. Those men even petitioned to the producers of street fighter to retcon her storyline and make her a biological woman. That offended some people, they think its transphobic. street fighter already have 29 biological female characters and being transexual makes her unique. They think Poison is a positive representation of transexuals and changing her story because some men are in denial of her gender cos they find her attractive. People dont really debate about her gender when she is still a Final Fight character. (she is originally from that game.) ever since she became a street fighter character. she became a center of debates. How did the producers, solve the controversy about her.... They said her gender is ambiguous. they were pressured to alienate any of the 2 sides.

Hold it, so Poison is a transgendered person in Street Fighter canon? Because the way I understand it was that when Final Fight was translated for U.S. release, Capcom removed Poison and I think the palette swapped sprite was named "Roxie" and replaced them with dudes. This was done so it wouldn't give people the impression that the developers thought that physical abuse of women was a good idea. So she had always been a woman, I think the cause for the debate is spreading of misinformation. Not that I wouldn't mind a transgendered fighting game character, I just like sticking to facts and research.

That is some urban legend. She is declared to be a Newhalf since her concept from Capcom character Guidebook. There had been many female characters you can beat at in videogames at the same time Now Capcom wants to play mind games with her fans so they will keep on debating. This documentary explained everything about her: Capcom already wanted her to comeout out as transgender , But Transcommunities reach up to Capcom and want them to market as a woman because that is how transwomen wanted to be seen, real women. Also Yoshinori Ono said in Japanese canon, she tucks in her manhood while in the US it is surgically removed. Capcom decided to be ambiguous with her gender to please her fanbase and transphobically confused fanbase.
It is a mystery that has haunted Metro City for two decades. The true identity of Poison has been a topic of debate for gaming historians, fightstick jockeys...
