Practically India WILL NOT Qualify to the Finals..........

India

Today India showed some excellent cricket to beat SL with a bonus point to stay alive in the tournament. But I don't think India will qualify to the Final. THEORETICALLY INDIA CAN QUALIFY, BUT PRACTICALLY NOT India's Net Run Rate(NRR) is very low when compared to Srilanka's. India NRR is -0.593 SL NRR is +0.162 Srilanka NRR is calculated as follows ((1739/323.3)-(1691/324.2))=+0.162 SL has scored 1739 runs in this tournament in 323.3 overs, and given away 1691 runs in 324.2 overs, Its difference gives the NRR. So even if Australia Scored 400 runs and SL makes 150 in 50 overs,Then also the SL NRR will not go under India's NRR. So Even 250 runs victory for Aussies will not give India a chance to qualify for the finals. So a very very huge lose should happen to SL, then only India can Qualify. So its bad news for all the Indian Fans... Share your views.

Well I was also thinking runr rate is the key,but now from the comment i understood that Run rate doesn't really matters.. I was also thinking how would India reach final with this run rate, even if Aus beat Lanka.. But now i got the strange rule that will make the way for India if Aus win the next match. So thats a good news for India..

Yes , I was also unaware of this rule, anyway its favorable to the Indians. Aussies just need to beat Lankans. Hope they will do it.

Hi Ramaswamytkv, NRR is not considered. Results between two teams is considered. India has one more victory over Sri Lanka. So if Sri Lanka lose to Aus, they are out! Strange rules but tournament rules are like that. Happy mylotting!

Strange rules. Oh I am sorry , any way its a good news. Now I had checked the rule You are right the rule is as follows. If the point and number of wins of two teams are equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team will qualify... I am sorry, I was not aware of this rule...

In this tournament NRR is secondary and head to head victories is main criteria to decide, which in my opinion is fair. Its because already bonus points are awarded on the basis of run rates,so if you get a bonus point and then further advantage too due to run rate its not fair. Also if two teams are tied on same points ,the team who won more matches head to head deserves to qualify more even if their overall Net Run Rate is lower. In 99 World cup ,Aussies went to finals although the match was tied against SA.

Yes me too think that this rule is fair. But the Lankan fans will be sad of it. The team which won most matches will have the advantage to qualify.

Hi ramaswamy, You have missed the conditions for qualification of a team in case of two teams are locked in equal points. here is the abstract for your information: *If two teams finish with equal number of points after all their league matches are finished : how will reach the final will be determined by following list of rules.. "*Team with most number of wins, qualifies for final. *If equal, team with most number of wins against the team they are tied with goes through to final. *If still equal, team which has won more number of Bonus Points in league matches moves ahead. *If still equal, team with better Net-Run-Rate would move into the finals of this Triseries in Australia." As per the above conditions, N.R.R. comes last. Most significant is the condition No.2 as per which the team having more number of wins against the team with equal points will qualify and India have more wins against Sri Lanka that is 2 against 1. India will therefore qualify if Australia beats Sri Lanka in final league match. Sri Lanka has to win the last match to get qualified. I don't think Australia will allow Sri Lanka to beat them to throw out India in which case they will resurrect a wounded lion badly bruised in their last match.

According to the rule of this tri series which is quite strange, run rate is depest and the last option to break the tie. First here no of vistories is consodered and even it make up a tie they go for the no of victory of one team over the other who is lager will qualify. IF still there is tie, team consedring the highest bonus will go and still not resolve then atlast net runrate is considered. In this case here Srilanka and INDIA has both equal no of points and INDIA has one more victory over Srilnaka with a match tie. Considering Srilnaka lost in last match, Points and the no of victories will be equal and thus INDIA will qualify since they have more victories over Srilanka. So let hope Srilnaka loss the last match and INDIA qualify for final.

If Aussies plays with Sports man spirit they will win the game. There is a chance that Aussies may rest their Key players as they are already qualified to the finals.
