New cruise ship accident

Yesterday fire broke out on Costa Allegra, near the islands of Seychelles. This ship belongs to the same company that owns Costa Concordia, cruise ship that recently hit the reef in Italy, and 20 plus people had died in accident. Fortunately, this time there was no injuries, but the ship is immobilized at the sea. Being cruise ship crew member myself, I still don't understand the first accident in Italy. People were died, and mostly because of the human mistakes. Captain is mostly to be blamed for the accident, but crew didn't react accordingly neither. About this new accident, don't know much, but to me, this looks like old ship (at least what I can see on the photos in the news), so that might be one of the reasons for the fire that broke in the engine room. But at least, it seems that this time crew did a good job, and nobody get hurt. My question is, are you think that cruise ships are safe enough? Would you take vacation on one after this accidents? Or this would hurt whole cruise industry?

It depends on the cruise ships and also depending on how the captain runs it. It doesn't matter anymore if that is budgeted cruise ship or a luxury but then it depends on how they handle and take care of it by checking all the engines and aware if everything is safe before the tour. I mean look at the TITANIC? Remember that right? That must be the first luxury ship that they have been proud of but then what happened to their only first trip of that luxury ship? Everything ruined just because the crews even the captain was not aware of the iceberg that they are almost approaching but they have already received the warning prior to that so how come they didn't listen to it right? In my case I don't really want to prefer having cruise. I mean I know no transportation that is perfect but with the ship I don't like it.

Today, it's not very likely that Titanic would happened again. Mainly because of all the modern technology that we have today. But maybe because of it, people tend to rely too much on it, and sometimes forget their role.

That company needs to reinspect all it's cruise ships, because it seems to be happening to that company. Hopefully, they can prevent stuff like this from happening in the future.

Its amazing how in life things always happen in multipuls, for years we never hear of cruise ships sinking or crashing and suddenly they start happening, but this sort of thing seems to happen in life, once a particular thing happens then more seem to follow never just a one off..it has put me off a bit in wanting to go on a cruise I am afraid.

I don't know that I would want to take a cruise after hearing this. It makes me nervous too. I never have but had thought about trying it one time, but after this? Well of course we can't blame all lines for one's mishaps. I just am glad that nobody was injured in this one.

You are right about making conclusions of the whole industry based on one company. But I think that ships are still safe way to go. Just, before someone take a cruise, should research about the company and ship it's going to take. Generally speaking, from my experiences, new ships are safer. And bigger the company is, usually better standards and procedures are in place.
