Field trips experience

In my school days, field trips or excursions as how they are referred here, were always something to look forward to. One particular one when I was around 13 were quite memorable to me. I was part of a school marching band and we went for a national competition in another city which took a day ride by train. That was the first time I traveled without my family for days; and I felt so independent when I was able to cope with everything then all by myself. In fact, when I came back, I asked my parents if I could 'move out' to the granny flat in the back of the house. I am so grateful that my parents always let me to be part of school field trips; and I am trying to do the same to my own children. I believe they will gain positive learning experiences from such trips. What are your field trips experiences?

@sishy7 How exciting! Did you end up moving into the granny flat? I'm going to envy you so much if you say yes lol When I was in grade 7, we all had to go to Rottnest Island for a few days. I actually didn't like it at first. I would rather be back at home. I loved being there! It's just...I wasn't entirely a happy I was going with the school. But looking back at it now, I did enjoy myself and made some memories which is good.

In my first year of teaching one of the school trips was a field trip to do some pond dipping. I had put my children in a group of up to six children. The challenging went in a smaller group so the helper had a better chance of control. I was worried one of the children could fall in the pond. Luckily all the children stayed safe because nobody fell in. I know the children all enjoyed that lovely day out for the field trip.

Sounds like a really fun outing day. Those trips could be tiring, but it's worth it especially when everyone had a good time.

i only have one memory of one field trip to the cotton gin. the ones i keep closer to my heart are the ones where i went with my kids. now that they're just about finished with high school, those days don't exist anymore. they want to hang out with their friends.

Yes, I've been to several field trips where I volunteered as one of the chaperones so that I can go with my kids and those were really fun too. My kids now are not as adventurous as I was at their age, though; they've never been anywhere when they have to stay overnight on their own
