To eat some good tapas you can go to la Ciudad Condal on rambla Catalunya. It is not very expensive but you have to be patient to have a table -- you cannot do a phone reservation --... or to eat your tapas at the bar.

Didn't been in Barca last 7 or 8 years, so I'm not aware of current situation there. But my suggestion is to visit Zoo, if you like animals. And something that is free, but can be interesting is to take a stroll up and down the Rambla, main street, and heart of the city. One place I liked a lot was a big tavern called Ovella Negra. Relatively cheap place with lot of young and not so young people, both local and tourists. If you like art, visit Dali's museum in Figueres. It's not far from Barcelona, and it can be nice half day, or day trip. Usually when I travel somewhere, I'm buying Lonely Planet's guide book (or at least visiting their site), to get some info before get there.
