Hebrews 12:29 King James Version (KJV) 29For our God is a consuming fire. Would you take this in a literal or symbolic way? Since God is a Spirit than the consuming fire has to be symbolic. Fire destroys, so hellfire (Greek: geenna) is a symbol for eternal destruction. I hope that helps!

The Latin word infernum literally means "the lower thing" and was used in both pagan mythology and Christian language to refer to the lower regions or hell. Inferno is the Italian form of this word and its use was merely popularised by Dante, who was influenced both by half-baked biblical teaching and pagan mythology in describing the abode of the damned. Modern usage of the term invokes one biblical description of hell as intense fire (the other is Outer Darkness), rather than any other of the pictures Dante used.

The idea of the inferno comes from Dante Alighieri's 14th-century epic poem The Divine Comedy. Most of the Christian world takes their concept of Hell from this rather than the Bible.

Let me tell you this way : If you can believe in God, the creator of everything you can see and everything you cannot see then believing he created an eternal fire is a piece of cake.

For me inferno similar to Hell. There are different ways of interpreting word, one thing i know it tackles fire or extreme heat. Its nice you research it first then formulate a topic. Welcome to mylot.

it's only fictional. if there is really a place that burns in all eternity. that must be a star, or the sun. and i don't think no one could survive living there. wild forest fire can cause inferno. but it can be controlled within a day or more. but still, it will stop eventually.
