An asteroid might hit the earth in 2040!

Hi, my friends! I heard a piece of news today: Scientists predict an asteroid numbered "2011 AG5" will flit through the earth in 2040. It has a probability of 1/625(0.16%) that the asteroid will hit the earth. The diameter of the asteroid is about 140m. Are you worried?

There still a probability of 624/625 that the asteroid will not hit the Earth.. :P And honestly, outer space thingy are not really making me worried. Global warming, lack of oil, lack of food, human population, World War III, and sooo on - surely worry me more - related to the future of the Earth..

I almost flicked the insect on my screen. Until I realized it's your avatar. I agree. In 30 years, a lot could still happen to Earth.

I am already 57 if that is the case. Well of course I'm a bit worry and hoping we can survive from that. But of course I still need reliable sources before I am going to believe.

Hi, Metatronik! It's only 140 meter large so I think it will not be a global disaster. But I'm hoping that I'm not so unlucky to be hit on my head!!

If I ever get to be 100, I might consider it a suitable and fitting way to end my life. I fully expect, though, that long before then we shall have a more accurate prediction of this little rock's trajectory and will be able to launch something which will gently nudge it out of harm's way or break it into small pieces which won't do anything more than give us a spectacular firework display.

Supposedly, "the asteroid appears to be about 450 feet across" (about 140 metres, as the DO has said). That's about 5 blue whale's worth. The Improbability Drive appears to be malfunctioning again.

I think this isn't the first time the Earth has been in this kind of peril, and that won't probably be the last. I believe that there have been many other asteroids before bound to hit our planet but have either burnt out, hit the moon, or went somewhere else. I like to think of them also as God's divine intervention and love for us. I think that we are more likely to die by our own selfishness and carelessness bringing about all sorts of destruction to Earth than getting hit by asteroids.

Hi quianyun: Not at all. In 2040 I'll be 52 years old. There are still almost 30 years left, there are so many possibilities that this asteroid in the end don't collide with earth and finally we can't control this so why feeling worried right now? ALVARO
