Why do we not remember dreams?

I remember once that I was dreaming about something and like a director, I could change the course of my dream and make what I wanted and when I woke up, I remembered everything and the next night, I could just pick up where I left off and add to the dream, it was sooo! cool! I never experienced that again, in fact these days, I can't remember my dreams anymore, except when I dream something bad or scary then I wake up just crying because it seemed so real and scared me especially if it had someone getting killed in it. Sometimes, I just wish I could remember good or nice dreams more often. When I wake up I'd have something pleasant to reflect on in the morning. Share your dreams, if you like, My Lot , friends!

thats really weird how you could do that. i often realise that im dreaming when im actually dreaming. like when i was younger i dreamt that i was walking through town with my sister. i turned to her and said "this isnt really, its just a dream".
also, if im having a scary dream and someones trying to kill me, i can often think to myself "if i let them kill me, i will wake up". so i let them kill me and i wake up.
dreams are weird things, i dont really understand them or why we cant remember them. apparantly though, if you wake up and right down as much of your dream that you can remember, and then do that every time you wake up, you will start remembering your dreams better and for longer. maybe you could try that if its something your interested in.

I think the time you remember everything about your dream was probably you're half-awake and your mind was really working. I mean, you were half-aware that you were dreaming, you were even able to change the course of it. If you were totally asleep that night, you wouldn't probably be able to do that, let alone remember all of it.
Also, if we remember dreams exactly as they were, probably we don't remember all of it but just a particular scene which made a big impact on us. It was so great that it was retained to our memory.
For those we do not remember, I think it's because, like what I said above, we are asleep and our mind is not working, more specifically, our memory-retaining capability is not working while we are asleep. However, I believe our dreams are representations of our subconscious mind which contains some deep feelings, desires, inhibitions, or anything that we do not really recognize. I can't really explain what I think on all of this but it's just so complicated even if it's just so simple.

I remember that I had a nightmare when I was 12 years old. I saw my younger sister was felt in a river. I want to cry but I can't. I was very scare. When I wake up, whole my body is full sweat. I still remember that dream to present.
After that, I dreamed too much but I can't remember about them when I wake up.

I often wake up knowing that I dreamt something and remember the feeling related to the dream, but I can't remember what it was about. There are only moments I can remember, at least most of the time.
Sometimes I'm glad I forget them ... tonight I woke up having bad dreams, and rather didn't even try to remember.
It would be so good to start the day after a nice dream - but waking up after a nightmare makes me feel happy, knowing that real life is still much better than a bad dream!

I can't remember most of my dreams when I wake up in the morning whereas some of my family members remember their dreams very well. I don't know what it is with dreams, why we can remember some and not the others. I wish I could remember the pleasant dreams also instead of the nightmares...

Actually dream is thing which occurs to us only because we are on good sleep and the thing which we like most will come on our dreams. If we don't have good sleep then that day we wont get sweet dreams. If we are on off sleep that day we will have some bad dreams and this also because we have think about that before sleeping. So, Dreams doesn't continue daily because we think different different issues daily.

I have dreams that I see my family that have passed on, I see them laughing and smiling and all around happy go lucky. I have to believe these dreams are their way of telling me they are happy in their new lives beyond the grave and that I need not worry about them.
I expecially like when I remember them it gives me a feeling of peace knowing they are no longer in pain and again loving life.
