My Daughter has a Cold

My daughter has her first cold. She's so stuffed up and when we try and use the suction bulb on her, she looses her mind. I can't fault her, I imagine it's super uncomfortable, but she just starts crying and then we have to spend a lot of time calming her down before we attempt it again. We've tried distracting her, and one of us holding her while the other one tries to use the bulb, it's gotten to the point where we have to wait until she's mostly asleep to sneak attack her! Surely there must be a better way! What are you experiences with this?

I have always just held my babys down and got as much as i could get out, out of there. It is very painful to hear your baby cry while you are doing it but they feel so much better. You might could also get some vics vapor rub and see if you could get it to break up a little. The best thing might be to go to the doctor and if you ask them to help you with getting it out them may be willing to help you suck it out.

Oh yes, Vicks is really good as well. There are also saline nose drops that the doctor suggested to help loosen up the mucus, so it is easier to suction out.

The suction bulb is specifically made for these situations. My little boy would have been miserable if we didn't use one. Especially since they can not blow their noses at such a young age. When my son was young, he loved it when we would use the baby's Vapor Rub when he had a cold. It really seemed to help. I would also get a warm wash cloth and wipe his nose alot. This helped keep his nose clear. There is also a lavendar baby bath that would really seem to calm him. I can't remember the exact name of it but it was in a purple bottle by Baby Magic. I would give him a warm bath with that, and then I would use the matching lotion. The doctor told me to massage his arms, legs, and feet when I put it on. It really did seem to relax him. I hope some of this may help your little girl.

I am sorry to hear that. It sounds like that your daughter is very little. Of course at first you shall go to see a doctor. Perhaps the doctor can give her some effective medicine to feel better. And then you shall give her lots of water. And eat more vegetables and fruits. I heard that the chicken soup is good for the cold. Perhaps you can try it. Finally, let your daughter to have a good rest. She shall recover soon. I love China

use salinase first and then the suction bulb. give her plenty of water and if you have this herbal plant we called oregano. you can boil or add water to its leaves and extract it. give it to your daughter cause it will make the phlegm go out to prevent stuffed nose. hope it can help.

I'm guessing your daughter is a baby. Of course putting something up her tiny nose isn't going to help. All you can do is pretty much give her baby pain and fever reducer to help get ride of the cold it won't help with the stuffiness but what will is a humidifies which will make the air water to the point where its easier for her to breath. You can stand in the shower with hot hot water running and just let the room fill up with the hot air.

Just curious, is her congestion clear or is it colored? If it is colored, just keep tabs on it so that it doesn't get worse. As for the congestion, and her having troubles with it stuck up her nose, definitely run a warm shower, stand in the bathroom with her and play with her and maybe her toys. The steam will help break it up some, then keep wiping the snot from her nose as it starts to release. I agree the Bulb is not something most if not all little ones like lol, lets face it, would we? You don't say how old she is? Is she an infant or toddler? Depending on how old she is, maybe you could give her something warm to drink. Is she feverish too?

Unfortunately, our children had the same reaction when we tried to suction their noses using the bulb. One of us would have to hold their head while the other one suctioned their nose. I sang to them as well while I was doing it ... the singing soothed them a little and was a way for them to hear my voice and maybe distract them a little from what we were doing. I know that it is difficult to do, especially when they obviously do not like it. However, if you do not do it, then it can lead to serious complications, such as ear infections, bronchitis, etc.
