Rewriting old movie scripts

I was watching an old movie on TV, Rooster Cogburn, and thought about two other movies. The first was the African Queen Which just happened to have Kathryn Hepburn as the leading lady, and Tears in the Sun. All three movies followed the same theme and a very similar plot. All three movies have a man saving a Missionary from bad guys. In all three movies they have to fight both natural and human elements. In all three movies the lady starts out being the antagonist of the man but in the end falls in love or nearly so with the man. Two movies take place in Africa and two involve a river, passing under enemy gunfire and rapids. Do you find yourself watching a movie and comparing it to other movies for over all Theme and Plot? I find many movies to be subtle remakes of popular movies with changes in the characters and location. Do you think this is a good thing or not?

What annoys me is not so much similarity between different films, but complete remakes of old ones. For instance, the classic 1975 One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was re-made and completely desecrated. I wish modern-day film-makers would leave old classics alone and realise they can't improve upon perfection. That what you say though about different films having similar storylines and messages is very true though, and I don't mind that.

Often I think they try to add more s3x and violence where is is not part of the movie. Sometimes repeating the theme and plot but not trying to remake the original movie gives you a new look at the old theme. I look at movies like "Casablanca" or "Gone With The Wind" and I can't see how you could improve on them.
