He is 40 yrs old and people think he is 60......not good

My friend has gray thinning hair that he keeps down to his shoulders and a full beard and mustache that is also gray. He says that people guess his age at 60-65.
We were with him and his wife at a theme park and he had the lady at the "Guess your weight/age" booth guess his age and she said 63. Sometimes he laughs it off and sometimes he sounds concerned about it. I told him that his long hair and beard make him look older and he says "No....I don't think that's it" so I asked him why he thinks they guess so much older and he didn't know why.
He really thinks he doesn't look that old!

Sometimes I encountered this I have some gray hairs and i am only 40 years old.One day when i give a woman with a baby my seat on the bus, She should thank me by calling me granny which an old woman is called in our country.i think the reason why they call people like this is that they don't look at people carefully, they just call people at a very quick glance.

That's weird! She must not of looked at you.
We use 'granny' here also. It can be referring to an old lady, and sometimes kids call their grandma, granny here.

Maybe he really likes it that way or because it is the style he had when younger they make him feel younger now.

He's very smart, but he is fun and acts goofy sometimes. I'm confused about how he perceives himself because sometimes he laughs when someone says he's 60 and sometimes he's not so happy about it. I think he perceives himself as 40.

I've seen many people like that, mostly men. They can't cut their hair, thinking it's a statement of their independence but they would be so much better looking and youthful without it. Is he married? Maybe he'll change his mind when someone offers to help him and his "daughter".
I'm probably one of those people, though. I don't color my hair, don't dress fashionably--if it's comfortable and covers me, I wear it!

It's funny, he is a biker pastor (reverend)! That's why the long hair and beard. He is married for probably 22 yrs. My husband and I are good friends with him and his wife. I'll have to ask her if anyone thought that she was his daughter!

I prefer young to old.
I think that's not good to be dressed up older.
My husband is seven years older than I,at one time I'm afraid that people may laugh at me to marry such an old man,but I know now that make not much difference,he looks handsome and young.
Yesterday,our family took some photoes in a photoshop,and I put the photoes on the wall,my friends come to my house and see the photoes,they are surprised that my husband looks more younger than I.
Does woman becomes older easier?

I prefer looking younger to older also. He dresses his age, I think it's just mostly his hair and beard and he's a little overweight.
I'm surprised people think you look older. Maybe you look more sophisticated! I think sometimes women do look older earlier than men. It is said that when men get older and gray they look 'distinguished' I think a man made that up! =)

I think if the biggest part of the people guess his age about 20 years older you do look old! Might be it's not only his hair and beard but also the way he behaves and the way he is dressed.
If he sometimes does sound concerned it does matter to him. I guess he doesn't know how to give himself a new look. Sounds to me he is stucked somewhere in time. His wife or some friends can't help him out with his new look?

Well, I think he looks older than 40. He's probably 20-30 lbs overweight and he walks kinda slow, like he doesn't have to be anywhere at any particular time. He's a biker so he's stuck in 'biker' time. ha ha! I don't think his wife wants to help him with a new look. He gets a lot of attention from girls when he's clean shaven and hair trimmed short.
