Such a funny thing that we in school we are studying formulas they say that we need this to become an engineer. Some of these mostly came from differential and integral calculus. Most of engineering students consider these two the terror subjects because its level of difficulty. Here exists the symbols for differentiation and integration just to compute the area or the volume of an object, or its speed and velocity. However, the solutions in calculus are much sometimes shorter than its solutions in geometry, solid mensuration, or physics where we could generally solve such problems. Many of us students and even those crazy engineers are thinking when we will use these crazy and out of this world formulas and solutions in our jobs. Haha. By the way, just to remind, i'm just a student.

I usually ask the same questions too. Since I'm studying engineering now, I was thinking like, hey we are studying calculus and other non fictional mathematical problems just to pass the board exam. Then afterwards, we'll not gonna use it anymore. Not unless we'll be in line with teaching. But now, I realize how important it is, since I'm fifth year student now, graduating. Honestly mathematics teach us implicit lessons like PATIENCE, DETERMINATION, SUBSTITUTION, BALANCE EQUATION and others, that usually forgotten when a person is a professional already. For example, I learn the value of equation, in order to say that it is a balance equation, the value on the left side of equal sign must be of the same value on the right side. In life, as engineering graduates, I used to hear stories how people who is in engineering field got rich using unbalance equation. That is because they tend to corrupt what is supposed to be use in a construction. The money given to them is not equal to the service they are giving. Actually not just in engineering, even in other field. Like in calculus, we all know that there is an even more easier solution to a simple problem, but we tend to use the calculus formulas and derivation just to get the answer. But it is exciting and more fun when you already got the answer by calculus. For me, it just mean that life may have an easy solution to what we want, to get what we think we could get, but still, it is much enjoyable and more exciting to be out of our comfort zones and get the same answer or the same product. I always like correlating math to life. Cuz I really love math and love life. Both blessings from God. :) By the way, God bless you on your career. Happy mylotting. :)

They are crazy, and soon we will be too. However, it is still nice to study them. Just wondering how did they discover those things in calculus? Haha.

Hi erjnsimon, Actually you do not need to use complicated formulae when you graduate and starts to work unless you're in the design or research field. Let me tell you a true story. When I was a final year engineering student, the University invited the MD of a large oil rig company to talk to us about career prospects in his company. When one student asked him what credentials or qualifications does one need to work as an engineer in his company, his answer took me by surprised. He said as long as he can tell the difference between a pipe and a cable he can work there as an engineer! I thought he was pulling our leg but later when I started working I realized that there was some truth in what he said. The formulae we learnt in school are only required to train our thinking and analysing abilities.

does it is real ,though many of my senior told me that but i thought that they was just teasing me,thank for sharing your experience

i am also an engineering student......for me those subject are really needed...we can apply them in a lot of applications...for example you wont get a license if you dont know those because they will be present in the licensure exam...and those subject are just basics...if you try harder to learn them very well the upcoming subjects will be easy for you and eventually your upcoming job will also be easy for you..
