i guess it depend on the situation, but in most case, yes it will harm the friendship... maybe there are times when the person who lend the money know the situation of his/her friend so they lend the money without expecting the borrower to return the money.

This is true. If you are upfront with your friend at all times, it need not harm the friendship. Also, if you decide to do something with the money that you hadn't told your friend about, you must get permission from the friend to do that new thing with it before you proceed.

probably yes,, in my case i have a friend always borrowing money from me he did it many times, but when every time he gave back its not 100% encash, he just give back 60% - 80%, and he said i will pay the balance tomorrow, but he doesn't, and last time he borrowed $5 from me, he said that he will going to pay it on next tym we meet.. then now after a days, he pm me at facebook he said that he will not going to pay!! he said , im noob, idiot ,etc.. so what i did is i took screnshoot then post it into my wall, then tag it to him, do you what did he said?? "i don't really pay you!!" WTF!!! what kind of friend i had? i hate him now!! dont like to see his face anymore!!!

It will not harm the friendship as long as the borrower will pay it back but if the borrower don't pay it back, then that will be the problem. The friend will not trust the borrower anymore.

I think it will not damage any friendship relationship when borrowing money as long as you will going to pay it on the time you promised to give it back. Friends are always there for you up to financial aspects.
