Hi myLot members, As you might have gathered that Microsoft completely replaced "Windows Mail" with "Windows Email Live" for Windows 7. Below are my findings on Windows Mail Live: 1) It creates many folders for each email account such as "Inbox" ... folders" When having many email account the list long and longer when using "Mozilla Thunderbird" 2) It might have great other features that Windows Mail doesn't but the user interface it very difficult to manage. Window Mail can still be run under Window 7 by using following tips: 1) Locate and download "Windows-Mail-Vista.zip. Warning: Many servers removed actual file due to copy right but this has nothing to do with MS but rather the respected server. I was able to download such file by doing few searches. Once you got, simply extract in any folder but except in "Program Files" just yet 1) uninstall "Windows Live Essential" 2) Remove "Windows Live folder under "Program File" folder 3) Still under "Program Files" folder, rename "Window Mail" to Window Mail Older" 4) still under same place, create Window Mail" folder 5) locate folder you extracted file, copy and paste everything under the created folder, restart system and everything work as normal. I did it and all went well! I hope this following tip work and let me know!

Are you referring to Windows Live Mail, the e-mail client that actually replaced Outlook Express? Windows Mail was the client for Vista, I gather. I am unfamiliar with it since I went from XP to 7. BUT when I was still using XP and OE and Microsoft announced they were retiring the DAV protocol used in OE (although OE could still be used for POP3), I downloaded Windows Live Mail. I find the interface similar to OE. Is the Vista client that much different than the updated version? From what I understand the Vista version only uses POP3 and IMAP, but can't be used for hotmail/msn/live accounts? Is that correct? And that all messages from different mail accounts come to one Inbox. That would not work for me. I retrieve messages from 14 different email accounts and I want to... need to keep each account and the folders separate instead of jumbled together.

Well, I woudn't know about those email servers you're talking about but if they allow pop3 then windows mail wouldn't be a problem as far as I know! 14 email account? In Windows Mail alive including Mozilla Thunderbird, show 14 inboxes! Image having having 14 inboxes, that list very long! Again Windows Mail put all account into one single inbox! Windows Mail we can do following: 1) Create folders inside local folder 2) Email rule, allows you to specify which folders where email message goes. In Window Mail Live, we can only create folder within email account and that list even bigger? In Mozilla Thunderbird, we can create folders seperated from email account and again list getting longer! Having a single inbox is best but that up to you to decide! Cheers

Yes, the list is long, but it is organized. And it is better than going to 14 different accounts and having to log in to each and every one of them to check my mail. I do not like the POP3 protocol. You cannot separate accounts. Each of my mail accounts are used for different purposes -- official business, friends, family, miscellaneous (things I Know will probably generate spam), etc., so as you can see, for me, it would be a disaster to have all those folders combined into one inbox/folder making it harder to find anything. But, you are right, if you only have one or even two accounts, than one inbox will work and Vista's Windows Mail would work just fine.

Hold on here! Who said in having to log on your 14 account manually each time? You can set email client to retrieve email instantely without login each time to your account (manually) What do you mean cannot separate each email account? POP3 protol (server setting are for per account) Since I have 4 accounts then I have POP3 protol server for each including smpt) Regarding folders, I didn't said in having to combine all into one inbox (see winmail image below, not an affialite link) http://imag542.imageshack.us/img542/3144/22598736.jpj As you have seen on image, folders are kept out of inbox and window mail live doesn't seem allow this! I have set specific email rule or filters that tell which email message to which folder! I hope this clarify few points!
