perm my hair? yes or no

Do you often have your hair permed? I love and cherish my hair. I never have my hair permed. Now I am 24, and I want to look fashional because I am going to work after graduation from the university on this June. I am worried that perming will do harm to my beloved hair. I saw my friends' permed hair which are dry, forky, lacklustre. I am in a dilemma. Please give some suggestions. Thank you!

It depends on you my friend. You have to decide whether you should get your hair done or not. It would be a hard decision for you because you love your hair so much. But there is nothing wrong if you try it. Just make sure you still care for your hair. It only needs proper treatment.

I would say if your hair's health is important for you, don't do it. Maybe if your hair is strong, you can handle the dryness with lot of conditioner and moisturizer product... But if your hair is fine like mine, it can cause a lot of damage and tons of split ends. I had my hair permed twice, I didn't even get the curls i wanted, and it was a broken dry mess. For short hair it can be ok, it's easier to grow it out quickly, but for long hair it can be a pain. I suggest using sponge curlers instead... It's more time consuming if you curls your hair after every wash, but more hair friendly.

dear friend, thank you. I will consider sponge curlers. After scanning all your lovely friends's response, I decided not to perm my hair. Maybe I am too scared of the possible consequence to have a try.

I vote no. LOL If you love and cherish your hair like you say you do, do not get it permed. I've gotten my hair permed a few times when I was a teenager. I never really had a bad experience from it, other than being teased about looking like a poodle. LOL But I would miss my straight hair after a while. Not to mention when the hair starts growing out it looks rather odd having a combination of straight and curly hair, so you either have to keep it up with perms, cut it, or go with the odd look. LOL The last time I got it permed I regretted it as soon as I did it. I promised myself I'd never get another perm again. And I haven't. By the way, my mom was one of the unlucky ones. She used to get her hair permed all the time. However, the last time she did, the hairdresser apparently left the solution in too long and part of her hair got burned giving her bald spots. I don't think it ever grew back...

oh, I am sorry for your mom's misfortune. Wish her happiness and health. After reading your description, I have a feeling, that Perming the hair is Dangerous! May at first, the permed hair looks so lovely and beautiful, but then we should do perm again and again to keep the shape, otherwise it will look odd. Thank you for your suggestion.

yes, i already do it, and perming hair is good to get rid of split ends in the hair. i even try to get a hot oil, relax, hair wax and hair re bonding twice a year. i only go to a saloon or beauty parlor where i heard many testimony from m y friends that they do a great services to a hair. so i try t and it now 5 months, i still have a silky, soft hair where i cold not even pony tail my hair or put a clip, t just glide away. so i think the parlor use the best hair chemicals and i also maintain it using a hair conditioner and shampoo only once a week.

hi, I want to say, those gif pictures on your page are cute. Thank you for your good suggestions. As you suggest, hair care is very important after perming. Beautiful hair needs an expert, indeed.

I only did it twice in my life years ago. The first time it looked somehow great but only as I was still at the hairdresser. My daughter cried out loud as she saw me (and did not recognize me). The second time they ruined my hair and face. The skin was burned for weeks. After that I never did it again. I like my hair, I cherish it and I don't see the need to ruin it again.

Oh, thank you! Your experience has taught me a good lesson. I am considering this still. I really love my hair. Will I exchange my healthy hair for beauty? I don't know. Thank you for your suggestion.

i think that you should not perm your hair because if not taken care properly it can cause damage and like what you saw with your friends dry. so i suggest, you better not do anything like perming your hair but if you really want to, then it is up to you. it just depends on the person how they really take care of their hair especially when it is permed to maintain it to not make it appear and look dry and damage. my mom had her hair permed before but it does not look dry and damage because she knows how to take care with it with the right regimen and hair care products..now she is back to straight hair again and her hair does not look damaged at all even if she has colored or permed it already..

Oh, I admire your mom 's way to hair. Yes, if I decide to have my hair permed, I should learn to take care hair and acquire more information about regimen and hair care products. Thank you! Good suggestions.

I had my hair permed in 2010. It is so beautiful everyone who saw me gives compliments about my hair. If you're going to get your hair permed, make sure to choose the best salon, don't entrust you hair to the cheap ones! Choose hair stylists with the expertise and training/education when it comes to hair. The only downside to my perm was that it was so expensive. It costs my whole month of allowance! But it was worth it. It is so beautiful.
