India made a winning start to their Asia cup campaign by beating Sri Lanka by 50 runs at Dhaka, Bangladesh. A late bust by Dhoni and Raina who added 78 runs in just about seven overs made all the difference between winning and loosing. This partnership took the match away from Sri Lankans who had the match well within their grasp till then, despite the centuries from both Gambhir and Kohli. Sri Lanka had the match well covered and poised to overhaul the Indian target until 35th over when they were 4 for 196. A twin strike by Ashwin in 36th over in which he dismissed well set Sangakkara and Thirimanne, put the brakes on Sri Lankan target chase. Irfan Pathan then put the final nail in the coffin when he dismissed both Kulasekara and Kapugedera in the 39th over. Sri Lanka ultimately fell short of the target by 50 runs when they were all out for 254 in 45.1 overs giving India a comforting win after the disastrous tour Down Under.

great to see our guys come back to winning ways, but what irks me is that... they have also come back to subcontinent pitches which does not mean anyhting positive as indians have alsways been the best here.... and hats off to kohli for churning out match winning knocks always :)

Thank you karthi. It is as important to perform on subcontinent pitches as on hard bouncy pitches of Australia, South Africa. Let us not under estimate our performances on these pitches. It is as creditable for non subcontinental players to perform on our pitches as to subcontinent players to perform on their pitches.

i do understand, it will be very hard for others to perform in here... but to be worthy of the "World champion" tag, we have to prove ourselves everywhere like the ausies did when they were champions

Oh really a great match and comfortable win for india. But its not really comfortable win friends. Because at a time when mahela and sangakara still on pitch that time i am really afraid. And they also maintain run rate. But though i think india's bowling line up is very poor. Irfan is not like a match winnig bowler. And i am really upset for dinda who takes lot of wicket in ranji. And also in a great form. Why they did not think for dinda. Ashwin is a great bowler but their have no any dangerous pace bowler. But at last india win by 50 runs. Its really great news. And i am feel proud for india. And best of luck for india for their upcoming match. I think india will get more success in asia cup. But i really want to see dinda, yusuf and tiwary on upcoming match. In my focus rohit sharma is a useless player in this team. And he is not in a great form. So want to see any other youngster in sharma's place. And please retire sachin!

Thank you tamosreee for your views. I agree with you that the win was not a comfortable one, It was a hard fought win. as long as Jaywardene and Sangakkara was at the crease Sri Lanka looked winners. I said it was a comforting win, after the debacle in Australia this win must have given lot of comfort for its innumerable fans. I hope they continue with this winning habits. I think you are too harsh on Rohit he deserves some more opportunities. As about Sachin it is time he hang up his boots and he knows about it. let him decide his future he deserves that much of consideration from all of us. Let us not forget great work he has done for us over the years.
