The Lyrics of 'Billionaire,' Getting Rich, and Charity

Travis McCoy's "Billionaire" is really a major song of the soundtrack of my life. McCoy and Bruno Mars rap and sing about what life would be like for them if they have 10-figures. He mentions being on the front cover of a prestigious magazine next to two celebrities and having his name in lights. But listen closely to the lyrics. What I love about some of them is about those about the rich man giving a good portion of it to charity. He raps about rebuilding homes and sending aid in the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005 and he raps about giving his share to hungry people. This song has me wondering, if getting rich is a target in life, what would you do if you've reached it? If I had a pretty high 6 or even 7-figure income, I'd do some of the things that McCoy and Mars sing and rap about in the song, minus the magazine cover photo shoot and the name in lights. I'd live comfortably in a modest house in an autism-friendly state (Florida, where I live, is not one of them, sadly), chaperone all the field trips of a school for those with disabilities, take autistic kids on a cruise, and donate to the hungry. And the best part about that is not worrying about taxes, gas prices, food prices, and other necessity prices at all. So, my lifestyle on getting rich is pretty much what reflects some of the lyrics. If you have the song about having a billion dollars as a soundtrack of your life, what would you do according to the lyrics? What would you also do in your own words. Keep the idea of an income that is considered "rich," pretty much at least $400-grand, in mind.

Being rich is one thing being wealthy is another. If I have so much money 10% goes to tithing a few percent to spend it like crazy , some to share to random people most to save and circulate , maybe 1 % to stare at .

Sounds like a good idea! I too, would spend 10% to charity, perhaps even more. I'm not afraid to share the wealth with others either!

Good eye. I didn't realize they talked about stuff like this in this song. But that's cool. I'm not sure how I would become a millionaire (if I did, I would probably be well on my way there), but I know that I would love to be hugely involved in charity. I know that since a kid I've always wanted my own scholarship foundation and/or homeless shelter. Right now all I do is volunteer with a non-profit once a month (and fund-raise donations all month/year long), but it doesn't feel like enough. But there's something so AWESOME feeling about helping other people - I can't get over it. I wish everyone could do this.

Exactly. I work like in a home-based biz and pretty much volunteer. But when I have a huge amount of money, be it a very high 6-figure income or such in the millions, I'll move back to North Jersey and not worry about any taxes because I'll get a much manageable house. And on top of that, I'll give back to the community, in particular kids and adults with autism. All in all, good ideas!
