assemble at home

i get so excited when a shiny new item arrives to enhance my living environment. Today I received an eagerly awaited entertainment center on my doorstep after months of placing my flat screen on a mud room bench. I eagerly unpacked everything from the box, and then studied the directions carefully, assembly each step. About halfway through, I discovered that I placed a bar backwards and had to start over. Then, I fixed that and came to the last step...the top shelf. But it wouldn't align with the holes. It took me nearly 30 minutes to discover that about five steps prior I turned another bar around backwards, so i had to back up several steps and start yet again. Am I the only one who runs into this problem. Here I am with a master's degree and have nearly finished my doctorate, yet I can't assemble a silly entertainment center. I think that somewhere there must be a secret society of people who make up the instructions for these things and just laugh about how they are going to create a nightmare for the person assembling them. Maybe there is even a mini camera somewhere where they just watch and laugh at us as we struggle to put these things together. Anyway, about two hours after I began, I am finally enjoying my new entertainment center. My only hope is that it doesn't fall apart. Does anyone else have this issue?

I gave up one Ready To Assemble furniture a long time ago after trying to assemble a dresser. I cannot tolerate the frustration. There is nothing wrong with you. It is a very difficult job.

i have never experienced this. whenever i get a new item, i always read the manuals carefully before using it. i don't know but i really have a passion for mechanical instructions. i find it very exciting especially if you're following every step the manual says and all falls right into place. but i can admit that there are some items where you can't really figure out what the instructions on the manual say. if that's the case, then there is nothing wrong with you. blame it on the manufacturer.

Ha ha, I know what you mean. I put together this dresser type thing I bought from Ikea and man was that a pain in the butt! Even though there were instructions as well as picture-illustrations for every step, I still ended up doing something wrong and it all fell to pieces about 25 minutes after I started to assemble it. . I wish these things would come ALREADY put together.... Happy MyLotting, and I hope your entertainment center does NOT fall apart!

Hi carleigh, no I'm sure you'e not the only one who has this problem. I have had it too, and usually let someone else do those things if they're available.
