snatchers...what to do?

Last night when I was riding a bus and texting a friend, I saw a commotion upfront. There were 4 guys who were going down the bus and victimized one passenger by snatching his wallet. The victim has recognized that his wallet was gone when the 4 guys went off the bus. He shouted and the driver stopped the bus. Then the other passengers just stood up and stare at the victim going down the bus. Then 2 passengers yelled at him not to go after the snatchers because he might get killed. Apparently 3 other passengers noticed the guys were carrying guns. Behind me were 2 security guards who were off duty just stood still and did nothing while saying that they had noticed those guys were suspicious looking. They cannot do anything because when the snatchers stood up, they saw the guns. They just said, they are not snatchers but hold uppers. I feel sorry for the victim. The other passengers tried to stopped him but he insisted. So he disappeared from our sight and maybe chased the bad guys. Then the bus driver took off since we were on the highway. I felt bad that I can't do anything and didn't know what to do. If you are a passenger of the bus, what would you do? And if you were the victim, what will you do? Will you chase the 4 guys who were carrying guns?

The best you can do is make sure you have the information of the bus. A description of the suspects and details about what happened. Go to your nearest police station and report what happened. Let them know that the bus was full of people. I don't know where you live, but here in the US our public buses have video cameras on them and catch everything that happens. If this bus and driver are the same every day of a particular route, make sure you inform the police of this also.

We have nothing like that in the Philippines. The buses here are quite old and it is not well maintained. I am speaking of those buses with no aircon. That is what I use in going home since there are no airconditioned buses plying the route at 2 am in the morning.

So sorry to hear that. It is still important to try and report the incident, especially with as many witnesses as there were on the bus, surely there is bound to be someone else, who feels that something should be said to the local authorities.

I will not do anything but to let the snatchers go away... its just a wallet with a money or i.d's. I have my life. I will not risk my life for a wallet... But the guards should do something... its their duties. they took oath for it.

I feel sorry for that guy. If I were him I would have just stayed on the bus and gone to the police. I certainly would not have chased 4 guys off of the bus. It is simple to call and cancel credit cards and bank cards. It might be a pain in the butt to get a new ID but it is better than being killed. Of course one never knows what one will do when faced with the situation.

This is when citizens need to band together to show each support and show abusers that we wil not be vitimized and bullied. We should not make it easy for someone to commit crimes against us without showing some trength to say we will not stand for it. they need to be put in their place and together i believe it can be done.
