Children No To Vitamins

My daughter is high school teacher. She keeps on complaining of getting tired always, going upstairs for her classes and going down to the faculty room every time she has classes. Plus the stress of dealing with 3rd years all boys students who are always noisy and the pressures for the school activities they had to attend to. Same with my son who's a working student, so busy attending the school classes after working at the office and same busy joining fun runs and marathons on week ends. I kept on advising my children to take vitamins in order for them not to feel so tired or to cope up with their activities. I don't understand why they are not convinced with the idea of taking vitamins. According to them they would be depending on vitamins and when they get used to, they would feel weak once they would no longer take. What's your views do they have points with their idea of not taking vitamins?

I think they have the wrong idea of vitamins. Actually, these only supplement the vitamins and minerals we derive from our food since we cannot always have all the vitamins our body needs each time we eat. And nowadays with the lifestyle we have, it seems there's no time anymore to prepare well-balanced meals. So we take these vitamins to cover for the deficiency. But they're not addicting. We would feel weak if we stop taking them not because our body became dependent on it, but because our diet really lacks the required vitamins and minerals we need.

Yeapp they got the wrong idea, lately however my son took the vitamins as he was joining the 42k run. He took home some vitamins given by the company sponsoring the marathon, at last he listened. My daughter however has medicine prescribed by the doctor for her iron deficiency with vitamins in it, am happy she's now taking it.

I completely agree here! Beamer88 is right, your kids have the wrong idea of vitamins! They're not like taking antidepressants! They are non addictive and you won't need them all the time. I am an adult and I take vitamin D because my dr said my levels were too low. I feel much better on them and what's so wrong with that?

Right thelma but I don't understand why they're not fond of taking vitamins. The would just take vitamins for the first 3 days if you would insist for them to take but after that they would stop. Thanks Thelma for the response. Hope you had a beautiful Easter.

I think an individual taking a balanced diet regularly does not need any additional vitamin supplement unless and until he or she has some disease. The vitamins present in the food articles are sufficient to cope with the body demands. Moreover, water soluble vitamins if taken in large amounts, the excess will be washed away with urine when it exceeds the maximum storing capacity of the body for that particular vitamin. So it is useless to take vitamin supplements. In case of your daughter, I would suggest to check a haemoglobin percentage in blood because anaemia may give rise to such symptoms.
