my simple question, waiting for friday drawing..
can APOEL become the surprising team?? yes they did
but maybe we want to know if they can make surprise once again in the quarter final..
and it show that the competition in ciprus is good and same like in EPL..
why?
EPL send 1 representatives team , chelsea
and siprus league sent 1 team too..
so in my opinion, there are same level between EPL and ciprus league

From the same logic, Cyprus League is not just at par with EPL but Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A, and Primeira Liga as well. It shows how competitive it is nowadays in the European leagues. Yes, Apoel Nicosia can surprise again, especially if they can get Marseille. If they could do 1 French, they could do 2. Logical isn't it?

I didn't say I want. And it is certainly not a must. What I said was that Apoel Nicosia COULD surprise us again especially IFthey could get another French team, Marseille. My saying was based on the same logic as what you said about the number of representative from the leagues.
It is not whether I believe or not. Apoel Nicosia has proved to us that they could do it. If they could do against Lyon, a French team, logically they can also do again with another French team. But football doesn't follow maths formulas.

i see..so our topic is logical calculation..
i make the first and you follow
the same things Lyon and Marseille, both of them is not good in french league..so like you said, maybe APOEL can do once again with another french club..
but the different situation if APOEL meet benfica..
both of them are surprised us..Benfica had make MU is not qualified in this champions league..
so both of them are monster for the bigger team

Maybe they can get to the quarters but there will be a lot of teams with more European experience and better players. If they draw chelsea I don't think that they would beat them as Chelsea has far better players

I too would like to see Apoel Nicosia do well. Although comparatively they have not as many well known players as the other quarter finalists, they proved that they could stand on their own by knocking out Lyon, a team that has more supposedly better and more experienced players. Of course it is not going to be easy for them whoever they got in the quarter final draw. They will be the underdogs. They will be expected to be knocked out. But it would be beautiful for the Cypriot people if they could just produce another upset. Remember Denmark and Greece?

I would love them to win it because you tend to see the same teams in the final and it gets a bit boring so i would love to see APOEL in the final.

I am actually very happy that APOEL has made it to the quarters. I hope they go on to win at least one more round. As far as EPL teams are concerned, I think they have had a really bad year in the European Championships. Both in Champions League and in Europa League all English teams other than Chelsea are out. But to be fair to them, they have been the dominant force for the last decade or so. Only this year they have had a real bad run.
Cheers!

I'm supporting are fellow Cypriots (I'm Greek) though I think that they must be playing at their best plus they should have luck too.
The funny thing about Apoel is that many players were rejected in Greece as failed players, Manduca and Chiotis waren't very appreciated in AEK Athens. They left AEK as bad players. Same thing happened to Charalambidis in Panathinaikos Athens and Paok Saloniki. Same thing to Poyrsaitidis In Olympiacos and Skoda Xanthi. He was considered a bad player backat 2002 and now he is at the top level at the age of 35! Same thing to Alexandrou in AEL Larissa where most of it he was in the bench. And Urko Pardo left Olympiacos as an overated goalkeeper. All these players went to Apoel and they perform a lot better than in Greece and they deserve their success. Too bad that miracles don't happen very often in UCL. It would be very nice if a team like Apoel could go to a semifinal or final in UCL. (plus too bad soccer managers here in Greece can't evaluate players :P)

Yes Ivanovic must be doing a great job there. If you consider that till this year the best cypriot UCL performance was Anorthosis Famagusta of 2008-09 where they just missed from qualifying from the group stage, then I think that Apoel is now something like the UCL Champions in Cyprus ;)

IT's too bad that Apoel drawed Real madrid in the next round. I would be very surprised if they managed to get past Real madrid into the semi finals. That would be a very great upset in champion's league history since it's the first time a Cyprus team has made it past group stage. If Apoel were to go all the way, i would say bigger teams have fallen and they have taken their participation for granted. It would be nice to see Apoel winning the champion's league, just like in 2004/2005, where Porto won it.

APOEL will not succeed in beating Real Madrid. I hope so, but it's impossible! APOEL fans must be very grateful of their team that arrived up to quarter final playing very very good. Anyway Real is too strong for this little team.

Yes, I agree. APOEL played very well and it's a great result have been arrived up to there and to play against one of the strongest teams of the World.

I think Apoel is definitely the biggest surprise of the year and, even if every team which qualified for the quarter finals would prefer to have them as their opponents,no one will treat them as underdogs because they gained the respect of all Europe with their fantastic evolution in the Champions League. However, considering the teams which remained in the competition I don't think Apoel can produce another surprise. They might have a chance against team like Benfica or Marseille if they are lucky enough at tomorrow's draw, but I'm sure of one thing:if they play against giants like Barca or Real, they won't be an easy prey for their opponents like other teams who suffered heavy defeats in the previous round.I think they will leave the competition with their heads up high, and even if the level of Cyprus league is still low compared to EPL,their progress is obvious and they deserve respect for their achievements in the Champions League.

no doubt, APOEL is the biggest surprise..
they make many team now must give respect to unfamous and unpopular team like Basel, APOEl and so on..
why??
the standard performance every league now had same..and its mistake when you underestimate one team even the team is unpopular..
