Dogs are like children.. it is so hard to replace them!

I had two dogs in my life that were like children. They would sleep in the bed with my husband and I, then sometimes with my kids. They were so good at whining so that they could go outside or need something to eat or drink. I had a minature doberman and a rotweiller part boxer. They were two females and just wonderful dogs. They lived to be 20 and 21 which is a good age. I was so heart broken when thier health began to show signs of aging. My minature doberman had a heart murmur and began to have seizures. My rotweiller part boxer lost feeling in her back legs. The doctor bills were outrageous. It was time for them to meet thier maker and we had to put them down. Life is so difficult when you make tough decisions to let go of the animals in our life because they were just like our children. I think I cried for two days and I miss them so much I don't want anymore dogs. Should I feel like that? Is it normal to not want what is lost? I know of others that go out and get a dog the next day they lose one. Can anyone relate?

Hi.I understand you.Dogs or other pets we keep are just our friends when they are with us for a long time .The pets are loyal to their masters.i have the same experience as yours.Several years ago, i kept a sparrow with my son.the sparrow is just like the other child of mine.but one day i hurt it by accident.i was regretful deeply till now. every time i think of it i blame myself hard.

I to have pet dogs and I love them so much. I was the one who helped their mother dog give birth to them and losing them are just like losing a bit of your heart. I have experienced losing a pet dog, and it is really painful. By "is it normal to not want what is lost", do you mean is it normal not to get another pet immediately? If you do, its perfectly normal to not get a pet immediately after losing one, you somehow feel that you don't want to experience another round of pain in case you lose them.
