About freedom and other miracles

When we are free? When we live in a country where we may go out when we want? When not listening to anyone outside of ourselves? When we do not have owners and bosses? Or when we find inner freedom when we learn who we really are, when force within us is so strong that even if we would put someone in chains we all free? I attended last night at a book launch, a new novel by Isabel Allende, island under the sea. I read the book, of course, because just appeared. But I heard, about the book, talk about the history of characters, their fates intertwined, in search of freedom and love. Some of them are slaves, but as the winged soul, that are freer than their owners. Some of them were found as well within them, that no longer afraid of anything. And even then, while listening to this review, I wondered when I felt free. When I left home for college, getting rid of parents watching? No, no, no way ... When I got to have my own salary and no longer dependent on money given by the mother or father? I think even then. But I do know that when I fell in love, when I met my real love and I understand that I am once and for all, I felt, finally freed from burdens. Mirroring me in my lover's eyes, I found myself, that you are looking for a lifetime. And I felt free to live, finally, as they wish. When you feel free? When you feel tied down? There slavery, even without chains?

I think that we are mostly free but we are never truly free. We are truly a slave to something in life. Often times we are a slave to life and its routine nature itself. But if we live our life mostly free, mostly able to say what we wish, do to mostly what we wish(within reason), then there is some level of freedom. And freedom is just something where we don't fear any consequences. Or at the very least very few consequences. I really ponder if we are truthfully free in this day and age. I think to many extents we are. And there is just something that does nag me right in the back of my head, where there is just nothing like absolutely freedom. There is always some shackles, some hurdles. However maintaining a state of mostly freedom is lives greatest miracle, as we are just rather not going to be absolutely completely free. And that is truthfully a miracle on life.

I feel free when I have a day with no commitments. I wake up, and know, that I'm not required to meet anyones' expectations of me. A day like that makes me feel like I'm a butterfly where I can go wherever I go and do whatever I do. That's when I experience the greatest sense of freedom.
