i wonder what you do with your extra clothes, old clothes, bedsheets, linens, etc? i sometimes send clothes to people who had been in calamities like fire and floods. some i make into rags, or quilts. some good ones i give to relatives who wants it. but most of the times, just to have enough on the wardrobe, i go into a garage sale. "ukay-ukay" as what we call it here is a very lucrative business if you make it into one. but of course, i only want to clean up the shelves and retain what i need. so tell me, what do you do with it? ann

If I don't like my clothes anymore I will ask my daughters. If I don't fit them (for a while) and like them I save them (and hope I will fit them one day again. If my (eldest) daughters don't fit their clothes they give it to me. What I don't use I save to give away to people in Hungary or Africa. Neighbours give me clothes as well mostly for my son or I save it for him. What I cannot use I save for my trip to Hungary or Africa. The clothes of my youngest daughter (6) I mostly have to buy, if it's too small I save it too, to give it away. Bedsheets and linen I use for years, can't remember when it was too old to use. Few years ago someone who emigrated gave me some extra. I use it as well and partly it's in my house in Hungary. An other part I will give to my father in law in Africa if I go back over there. If it's all just rags I safe it for the ferrets in my shelter. So everything is used. I don't sell it. Some smaller stuff or toys etc I give away or it goes to the second hand shop.

am sorry for not being able to reply at once. i had some medical problems but now ok. we too hand down clothes but then sometimes, they are just not suited for the next younger generations hence we need to send it out or everything will clog in the cabinet without use but food for the insects, then it will go to waste.. like rags. it is a thriving business here in second hand shops. thank you for your reply. ann

I am doing a lot of cleaning out right now in preparation for my move across the country. It's amazing how much one can accumulate in 5 years even though I'm not one to go buy a lot of stuff! I have never liked having yard sales. The things I have aren't valuable enough to spend hours sitting there and bargaining with people. In truth, I could put everything that means anything to me, including my dogs, in my car and leave and the rest would not matter to me a whit. So I'm donating all unnecessary things to a local charity. I took 10 bags of various items to them just yesterday and the week before it was 8 bags. There will be more! Other things, nice stuff like knick-knack shelves and exercise equipment that I can no longer use, I put in my front yard with a sign that says "free, please take me home". Nothing has sat out there more than a couple of hours! I know someone will either use it or sell it and make some money they need. Giving things away, to me, is much more satisfying than selling it. People get things they need and want and my things are usually appreciated in their new homes.

WE have a system where we pass our good cloths through out the family, then any left overs go to the church for handouts. Since most of the women are working and we are pretty much the same size this works well for us and we each get new to you work cloths a couple of times a year.

i normally just opt to give unwanted stuff away. that is, if someone else expresses an interest in something i already do not want or need. if they happen to not like it either, then i decide if i will recycle it into something - like a new container, or a rag, whatever. now it's another thing whenever my mom holds her every-other-year garage sale. i make sure to become part of that event as it is always done in a grand fashion, and i always make money off it. you may (or may not..hehehe) think then that how come i do not just opt to collect my unwanted things into a box and wait for the next garage sale? well, it's because i just cant stand the sight of things just laying there and not being used. so, it's either i give them away; transform them into more usable things; or make profit out them by participating in my mom's garage sale.

I also give my extra clothes, old clothes, bedsheets to the poor affected people or to those who do not posses enough clothes to wear and as a result my shelves get cleaned up.

I find that i dont not have time to have a grage sale. My store just had a yard sale yesterday to get money to support a charity. But other then that i always put the clothes and other stuff aside. And then if i dont have time to have a yard sale or cant find anyone to give them to then i just throw the stuff in the trash or if they are in good condition then i take them to a thrif store.

hi tigeraunt as I amn now in a retirement center the o ly extras I have at times are clothes. I found that I can weed through my tops and skirts and take out the ones that never did fit,or the ones that I no longer like, or ones that are a bit worn and take them down stairs in a large plastic bag. In a few hours the bag will be empty and someone has found use for all my cast offs. I would rather do that than anything else. throwing them out is a waste and it is hard for me to get around to salvation army so I try to help fellow residents here instead.

Being that I have got two nieces, I will save most of the things that my daughter has grown out of and will hand those things down to them because I know that allowing Lilliana and Kaylen to have Kathryn's old clothes will save their parents a lot of money in the long run. Paul, on the other hand is the only boy in the family and that means that I do not have as many options of what to do with the things that he doesn't need anymore. So, when he has things that he has outgrown, I will either hand those things down to friends or I will donate them to charity. I used to get rid of all of all of the things that I didn't need with yard sales, but for me it eventually got to the point that it was more hassle than it was worth.

Hi, garage sale is not popular here in my place. I usually give my old clothes to victim of earthquake/flood etc (natural disasters), who need clothes for the emergency situation.

Most of the old stuffs in our house turned into rags. And in terms of other appliances. We really use them to the last breathe of it to maximize the usage of the appliances. When its totally ruin and unable to work it out. We sell it to the junk shop. Cleaning house and riding the old stuff is a healthy routine. We haven't try to have a garage sale of our own. We might try this soon. Nice tigeraunt!

Anny dear Garage sale, i hear this for the first time, you mean you sit near a garage and sell? here we have some women and men, they collect old sari, blouse, pants, shirts from women in home against stainless steel utensils, these are very thin.. they clean, iron these used clothes and sell in the sunday market, poor people usually buy them..

Hey Ann I am Costas. We give old clothes to relatives in rural areas or donate them to children homes. But it’s rare and only families that are well off are able to do this. I saw this TV show where a lady took all her husband’s old t-shirts and made a blanket from them. That was funny but clever
