My husband died 19 years ago due to chronic renal malfunction. Both kidneys were no longer functioning. There's no other choice but for him to undergo dialysis as we could not afford a kidney transplant. At first he was scheduled to have dialysis once a month then became 2 times a month, weekly and three times a week, wherein we could no longer afford. Not all hospitals before have a dialysis machine only the Nat'l Kidney Inst. and few others. Eating food with much fats and salt damage our kidneys so we have to avoid it. When our kidneys failed to function, instead of throwing out out waste water in our body (thru urinating)it goes to our lungs thus the patient could hardly breath or to other parts of the body, thus the patient swell. The patient also has a sort of allergies as the water in our body is uncleaned. Dialysis machines serve as the filter that clean our blood and water inside our body. So, after a dialysis session you'll see the patient to be strong, well and good. If you have a renal failure dialysis is a lifetime or unless you afford to have a kidney transplant, One way for us to protect our kidney according to some including to some doctors is for us to drink the water of the young coconut (buko). Once your kidney been damage drinking coconut water would be no longer effective. Your intake of water would be regulated. I learned these ideas and observations with a one and a half years of experience being with my husband while undergoing dialysis.

I am sorry to hear that about your husband, my friend. How come your husband had a renal malfunction? What caused it?
Is he fond of eating fatty and processed foods as well as salty foods? Is it true that always drinking Coke or carbonated drinks or sodas can lead to kidney disorder?
How much water should we drink every after meals? I hope you can enlighten us on this, since your husband experienced this kidney trouble.

Thanks Ganesh, really great for us to take care of our kidney. Glad to hear you'll be eating more cautiously in order to protect your kidney. For if everyone of us give importance and take time taking care of our kidneys there would be no more or lesser kidney problems. Thanks Krishna, have a wonderful weekend.

i am so sorry to hear about your husband.
my cousin has kidney damage too. she would swell and gain so much weight so rapidly like in a week, her weight would be more than twice her normal weight
she also could not let the fluids out of her system through urinating unless she is administered her medications. it is so sad and she is very very young. it started when she was i think 16, she is 22 now. and right now actually it is back again
but she is not undergoing dialysis, i guess it can still be controlled through her medications. i just hope she recovers and be healed completely.
our health is just very important and all the organs in the body are as important as each one of them. actually after reading your discussion, i went to the bathroom to pee, i just got reminded hehe. prevention really is more important than cure. i need to be more careful now.

Thanks Cherish, glad your cousin is not undergoing dialysis. Good if her kidney problem can still be controlled through her medication. She must observe and follow what are the food she has to eat. No much water intake as really it would double her weight so to avoid dialysis. I pray your cousin would recover soon. Thanks for the response. God bless...

Kidneys is one of the organ that should take care. This is why kidneys play an important role to avoid from other side effect and could made a patient forever. We should take a minimum 8 glass per day.
Experience taught a good lesson.

Sorry for your loss. Yes I do realize that the kidney is one important oragan other than the brain, heart and lungs. If the kidney fails, your heart and your lungs will be compromise. Your heart will have additional work load and lungs as not much of the fluid intake will be flushed out of the body. A person would likely have pulmonary congestion and will have difficulty breathing and the heart would have to work more because of the excess fluid. These are only few of the possible complication with our kidney failing. I have seen many patient suffer from this. And it is very difficult, you will die slowly.
