Changes as We Age...

Philippines

I admit,I'm not getting any younger and I feel I'm old. I'm saying this because I notice some changes in me and it is somehow due to aging, waaa!!! I cannot read clearly enough with those little txts, ouch! My body is always aching especially my back, too lazy to exercise again,oh my! I easily get tired when I chase my daughter for playing, but I like chasing her because that's my way of exercising, hehe! But there are also some positive changes in me,I am more open and patient now. I know all of us have these changes as we age,do you like those changes? How do you handle it?

Hi mtr I am getting older too and I know days are going to get difficult. But there is nothing much that anyone can do to control the Aging process and is has to happen. So now there are two ways - Accept that as a fact and do take measures to stay healthy and positive about it or sulk and make yourself uncomfortable. Take regular supplements, good medications in consultations with better doctors and also if a full time exercise doesnt go well, at least try the Morning and Evening walks. I cannot! but I know these walks are great for health and many issues related to old age - Blood Pressure, Over-sized Tummy, eyesighht, etc.

Mtr May be I am the qualified one here to motivate you for exercising. Ha ha you know, I am the laziest in the world for exercising, I have cervical spondylites which needs regular exercise, now it is turning bad and I remember about exercise when it pains, usually in afternoon, it keeps me away from the computer (yes it is turning to a matter of concern). So what do you think, Am I the qualified one to motivate you?

Hello mtr. Who told you, you are getting old, your life just begins dear, ha ha... but if you think that you are getting old, here it is a matter of concern. All of us are getting old when days passes and it can't be controlled. But you can be young in your mind dear, it solely depends on you. If your mind is young then you will remain young for sure. A healthy diet is very necessary at present and avoiding junk food will keep away the unwanted problems dear. I read in a book, our body will accept anything till the age of 40 after that the body starts to react, it is a fact,. so it is very important what is going to your mouth. Yes, I read in many places, a healthy diet can keep us energetic irrespective of the age. Just relax and play with your daughter, forget about the aging process. Life begins at 40.

Dear mtr, It means you have to be disciplined my friend. Weight gaining is also related with aging, strict 'no' to junk food dear especially in night.

As you said, life begins at 40, and now that I'm 40,I don't know why I am going back to my old cravings which is not good for my health, ouch! And I am also gaining weight. What I've noticed when I reached my 30's was my metabolism really slowed down to almost a standstill. No matter how much I diet or exercise, it takes time for me to lose even just a couple of pounds. Unlike when I was in my teens when I needed to slim down because I would be going to a formal party and needed to fit in some dresses that I just borrowed, I could easily shed those unwanted pounds. Also, I used to have vision like a cat. My brothers were actually amazed that I could see my dad from a crowd of people around 200-300 meters away. Now, I wear glasses because my right eye is already very bad. It's not like I need to wear glasses all the time. I just need to wear glasses especially when I feel tired or my head aches.

I have also some concerns with my eyes too. Now I can't read smaller txts, huhu! Wow,you have a vision like a cat, that's something! I thought I had the perfect vision during my teens time but you beat me,lol! Sometimes we wish all those things can come back again or we can still do those things even if we age.

I admit,I've been bad at times during my teen age era but I'm happy my son did not do what I did before, lol! I just hope my daughter will be as good as her brother too.

I agree with you that as we age, there changes in us. When I was younger, I did not relaize this may happen to me. But as I age, I came to accept the reality that I need to adjust to certain things in order to survive. My children are teenagers already and I need to change how i deal with them. It is really different whent hey were younger. I am now lookig forward for the age when I become senile walking with crane, forgetting things, peeing my pants. How I wish I will not reach that age

hello there, Reaching senility age is not the same to all. There are individuals who age "smoothly" while others go through it with difficulty. I had seen some old folks around the community I live in with those forgetfullness and other signs of deterioration and that is what I am afraid of. But you are definitely right that we should take care of our health to age gently.

@irene..I agree with you that it is different when our kids are younger. I wish my son will go back to his early age again,I miss my son, though he is just here with me. It's different now,he is not that close to me anymore,he says he doesn't wanna be called a mommy's boy. @hatley..hi ms, hatley! I know how you look things positively even if your loved ones are gone and I admire you for it. I wish I will be as strong as you when time will come to me like that.

Nature makes us people old by bring changes in us and it's quite natural. We people have to take it but the youthfulness doesn't have any role in it. The way of thinking makes you the one. If you think that that you are old enough you are turning out to an old but if you think that you are cute still at your youth then you are the one to do anything you like with all the pleasure. The way of thinking makes so. So think differently. Think that you can do it then you can go for it. All the best!

When we are young we feel we should age faster as we feel that the adults are the luckiest but now as i age i feel i should have remained young without any responsibility with a carefree life. With aging comes the both the mental and physical problems but with a healthy mind one can cope up with all this. Yes excercise is a good way to keep fit but we feel lazy to do it. I have been thinking of a brisk morning walk but as i do not any company it gets postponed daily. Happy mylotting.

Exercise has been scarce as i do easily get tired now a days, but the only thing i enjoy is still the bedroom exercise with the wife, lol!

It's got be really hard be like past the 70's I think because of pains and difficulties as the body slow down, I feel young still so I don't think my opinion is valuable but since 16 I really stopped worring about aging. I know women that lie about their ages and I don't get why, I forget my age constantly as well. I deal only with the really old age, I think about it to prepare my self just a little bit and always tell my self that when the time comes I'll be okay.

Hi katie! Before,I answer at once when they ask me about my age,but now I always say don't ask 'cause my age is no longer in the calendar days, lol! My dad is already in his 70's and I could say he is still strong,he still works until now but he complains about some body aches. I adore my dad's health,he has diabetes but he is determined to live healthfully. I just worry I might get diabetes too when I reach the age of 50,dad had diabetes at that age.

I have been dealing with the issues of growing older myself, so I understand what you are talking about. It is true that we all have to get old sometime, the key is to have the right attitude about it. I try to focus on the positives of aging and enjoying the fact that I now know who I am and what I want out of life. I wish you luck in the future.

Getting older seems to be a problem with a lots of people. Because as you said when we get older, we start to feel something in bad in our body. As you said, one of the changes is that you cannot read clearly? i think that this is not because of growing old, there might be other reasons why you can't read clearly. Have your eyes check, before it gets worse. And about your aching back, since you are a woman, we are highly at risk for osteoporosis, or something, a little exercise will help and some calcium supplements. But there is one thing i noticed, you said you become more open and patient now, that's great, because i've heard some older people that, they've become irritable and easily get angry. Good thing for you your not kind of those people. As for me, i'm not afraid to get older. Since i'm still young, i will do my best to be healthy, so that when i grow older, i will not suffer from any kind of illness or something. LOL

Hi tatzkie! I am happy to say that among my siblings,I am the only one who wore eyeglasses at the older age. My brothers and sister wore eyeglasses at their teen age. I had eyeglasses because of astigmatism and I am not wearing it for years since my daughter always takes it off, yay! but you are right,I should go for an eye check up. I am sometimes irritable especially when I feel pain in my body. But as I evaluate myself,I could say I am more patient now. That's a good start, have some exercise at an early age and stay healthy.

When I was at the age of 5, I really wanted to grow older as fast as the train runs. Because I hate seeing my mom grows old. I wanna grow old with her. That's my simple prayer before. heheh.. As I realized it is really hard to grow older. Anyways, growing older means you are just traveling. The time you reach your destination the time you get tired. There are a lot of ways to handle it. Just keep Smiling it'll make your wrinkles go away. " )

Yes, I know what you are talking about and it took me by some surprise as well. Waking up in the morning and feeling all my joints ache. At first I thought there was something wrong, when it first started happening, but then my sister told me that it was exactly the same for her. As a Zen practitioner, I practice meditation each day and through this practice I am geting to realize more and more that nothing it forever. Our health and vitality, all give way to the ageing process. We do have a Wii consel though I exercise with it every day, and I must admit it is the best and most interesting form of light exercise I have ever done. I usually give up, but I am finding for the first time, that exercise if fun. OK, I will never get my youth back, but I can improve my fitness levels and I am happy about that. _Derek

I bought my Nintendo Wii console from Amazon (I had spelled console wrongly as consel).. . I got the Wii fit balance board as part of the system. There are games that you play while moving about using handset, feet and the balance board. More is explained about it on the Nintendo site here- www.nintendo.com/ (not an affiliate link). You could also do a search for one in your own country. It is great fun and getting me fitter every day.. Well worth the price which would be different in every country I guess. _Derek

No, I don't like the physical changes, especially the wrinkles and the roll around my middle. however, my expanding waist has given me a legitimate excuse to buy new clothes and get rid of some of those I've been wearing for the past 15 years.

It is strange that along with ageing the interests that require energy also wane simultaneously so that ageing does not seem a burden on any one. Nature takes care of that.

I like the changes as I get older (hehehe).I like wearing specs and looks like a professor Ms.Tapia (unless not Bakekang- nyayy)Getting mellow and yes more patient.Aside from those backache and blur eyesight I also feel getting tired easily and exercise is one of those things that I feel too lazy doing these days. I wish to trim down a bit too, as this age old is making me gain weight easy. I avoid friends invitation too, since they like restaurant hopping and shopping for food (ugh) The little princess in your avatar, is she the one who made you run? At least thats a good way to stretch and exercise :)

Hey there again Teresa. I wouldn't say that I'm just old or anything, but I have definitely noticed a lot of changes in me as I continue to age. For one thing is my level of fitness. When I was in my 20's, I was able to run faster mile times. Now that I'm in my 30's, my times are slower. My knees hurt me sometimes when I run as well. Like you mentioned there are some positive changes that come from aging. I'm a lot more cerebral now than I used to be. I think a lot faster than I did when I was younger. I also value my life more than I did as a youth. It's tough dealing with the changes, but all I try to do is accept them and enjoy the fact that I'm still alive. Best wishes to you :)

Hi my good friend! ..but all I try to do is accept them and enjoy the fact that I'm still alive..this made me smile Bradrick! The fact that we are still alive is very much a big blessing despite all the body aches I am feeling as I age. You just made me look onto the negative things positively. What is important is we're still alive. And that means we can still do more for the betterment of ourselves.

Even though at a young age, some days I feel like I'm over 70 when I roll out of bed, and roll the old bones to get ready for work. Blaaarrrg! I guess it all depends what you do, and how you treat your body, whether you sleep well, eat well, exercise etc. But ya, I noticed I have changed in the way I feel. I'm more tired, and restless at night compared to what I was when I was 19. I just deal with it a day at a time. I go with the flow even though I ''push'' myself to run the stairs or go out walking.

Hi blaqwynter! Welcome here! It must be hard to feel like you're already 70yrs old and the fact is you're still too young.I think should always do the "pushing" style to make you fit. and thanks for that word, now I know what to do so I can force myself to exercise, haha! @byola..I like what you said...we age gracefully!
