I have seen many people who are sleeping with their eyes slightly open. Just like now, my nephew is sleeping here now in my room. He was put here in my bed because he was asleep when my mother and he went out. So after putting him in my bed, I have noticed that he is sleeping so sound and one thing, his eyes is partially open.
Others are sleeping with their eyes closed. Others are opened. I don't know whether what is the indication of it. What do you think mylotters? Do you also sleep with eyes slightly open or not? I would love to hear that!

Hi cearn,
I have seen that in kids, when they sleep eyes are open partially. I can’t remember any similar incident with grown ups. About myself, I think I am closing my eyes completely and till now nobody said that I am sleeping with half open eyes
. I have no idea why people sleep with partially opened eyes, somebody told me that, the people who sleep like this are more responsible (lol) I wonder, how?

Who told you? Well, I don't think it has something do to with eyes slightly open with being a responsible person. There is no relevance. I am sorry.
Good thing you have seen kids who have slept while their eyes open a bit. It is kind of odd. What do you think?

Hi cearn25,
In so far as I know, I sleep with my eyes closed. No-one has ever told me different!
I know what you mean about seeing someone asleep and their eyes partially open, it's freaky, isn't it?! I have a niece who sleeps like this, and what makes it even freakier is that her eyes actually move with you.....like when you cross the room and she's sleeping, she will follow you with her eyes half open/half closed.....but she is really asleep!! No-one else in her family does it. I find it so weird!!

i would think then they are just partly asleep because your brain has to be working a bit to move your eyes to follow someone else's movements across a room so maybe she is
pretending to be asleep instead. ha ha.

Hi Hatley, hmm you may have a point there though she swears blind that she was asleep and has no recollection of it next morning. It is a sight to watch! No pun intended!!

I don't think that sleeping with the eyes slightly open is a 'cause for alarm, but it's still best to consult a specialist about it. There's actually a sleeping disorder in which people sleep with their eyes literally open, and this is something serious since it might be due to some problems with the nerves.

Normally people sleep with their eyes closed. But there are a few who sleep with their eyes slightly open. This is nothing abnormal. It is treated as a natural phenomenon. But if the eyes are widely open, there is chance of development of exposure keratitis. Under such development, the victim needs to use any lubricating ointment before going to bed.

If it is wide enough, then it is abnormal already. It must be brought to the doctor. However, in my nephew's case, I think it is nothing serious. But for those who are experiencing a serious problem, it must be cured from time to time. Nice response my friend.

It is possible that one sleep with open eye but the eye lid didn't fully open it juwt not close up completely. This is due to some defect or habitual problem.
I had seen this way before and also getting the problem solved. Try to go to doctor and get proper treatment of boy else with it will remain for long time in his young age. Though it is not a problem but not good also see better get it treated well.

I've seen many videos on youtube containing unknowing victims, who were sleeping with their eyes slightly open. In most cases, their friends or family took the video for a laugh.
Sometimes, it just might be a coincidence, like the position you fall asleep in. Maybe he finds it more comfortable.
If it is a habit, however, maybe it indicates some sort of disorder.

My husband and I both always slept with our eyes completly closed. I've heard of people who sleep with their lids half open but never seen it. My sisters best friend would sleep with her eyes almost fully open she said it was really creepy. I cant imagine why or how someone could sleep like that. My kids eyes both look completely closed when they sleep but in all the pictures I've taken of them while they slept their lids are open very slightly.

I think that many of us do that. Where we are in a state of really not going asleep but we are not quite awake. I have noticed people who do that, where there eyes are kind of sort of open but they are not quite in the world of being awake. Of course, there are times where we are partially woken up. I notice that a couple of times, some people who mumble in their sleep are like this, where they are not quite awake but not quite asleep as well.
It is just something that I find rather interesting to ponder. It is just an interesting quality, eyes partially open. Then again, I think that many of us may find that when we don't truly get to sleep right away, when we try and open our eyes, mentally we are awake even if we are physically trying to push ourselves to sleep. It is just really something that is intriguing, an intriguing phenomenon. Sleeping with eyes kind of open.

You have a good observation my friend. I also tend to watch those people who sleep very weird. I say it weird in a sense that they sleep with their eyes slightly open and sometimes mumble or say things unlike us who just sleep normally. I have noticed with my boyfriend, when he sleeps sometimes he would mumble in the middle of the night and stands up but not awake or not aware of his doing.

So you admit that you are one of those people who sleeps with eyes partially open my friend? Congratulations! You are one of a kind in this world! You are special. Yeah, right. But there is nothing to worry about because it doesn't affect the whole you. It is just that God created you uniquely. Be thankful. It creeps sometimes because others find it weird or unusual!
Good morning! Spread the good news!

My husband always teasing me because he said I'm sleeping like I'm not because my eyes were half opened *LOL
My second child, ages 4, were sleeping just like me - half open-eyed! I used to laugh at him whenever I see him like that and my husband used to laugh at me when I laugh at our child because, it's like, I'm laughing at my self as he says, because we're alike *LOL
We had fun in that state of sleeping of me and my second child *LOL

Wow! While reading your comment my friend I was really laughing so hard. I can't take but laugh. I also smiled when I saw my nephew having an eyes half-open. Weird. Isn't it? I think it could also be hereditary because base on what you have said, your child also sleeps just like you.

This seems odd actually, since I only saw kids sleeping with eyes half open, but I haven't seen an adult sleeping that way. Maybe kids are too lazy to close their eyes when sleeping (hahaha) I don't know anything myth, or any relevant things when a person sleeps with half eyes close. I only know one kind of rare condition with people who doesn't have eyelids and they are able to sleep with eyes wide open.

You are right. I feel like they are watching us. They are joking knowing that they are sleeping but their eyes are open but not whole. I think it maybe because they are just stressed out. Its very confusing what really are the reason behind this.

Maybe it's a natural thing for him? I've seen people sleeping with eyes partially closed and i dun think it's of any problem for them. As long as they get to sleep soundly, it should be fine?
At least it beats sleeping with eyes wide open and i really dun know how people are able to sleep that way.. lol
Closing of eyes while sleeping is caused by heavy eye lids when we are sleepy, and it's common with completely shut eyes. For partially shut eyes, i guess it's to do with their eye lids as well? haha

I think so. The eyelids are one big factor why some people sleep with eyes partially open. Yes it is just normal for my nephew. There is nothing to worry about. But there those people who are not having a good sleep because of that. I think it is a deficiency.

It is not learned my friend. It is already in the person. Unfortunately, you don't have that kind of ability. I am sorry. But, what you said was indeed funny. Yes, it will be very useful trick. I would love to use that kind of trick in class because there are times I feel so sleepy and I wanted to sleep without the teacher knowing it.
