My computer does not recognize my camera...

...When I plug it in to the USB drive or whatever it's called. My laptop does, but my desktop does not. Keep in mind that I don't have any software for it downloaded on either computer - how I download pictures from my digital camera is just by plugging it in, and usually an extra drive will show up, where I can open the pictures in a folder. For some reason my desktop computer does NOT recognize the device.
The USB drives work though, as I have used them for other things.
I wonder what could be the problem?
It's a little bit older, but I remember it worked with previous cameras I have had...
What do you think?

Does your laptop and desktop have the same operating system? If yes, then there would be no problem, but if not, i guess it a matter of compatibility or driver-related problem. Usually built-in plug and play device could easily be detected by Windows Vista or 7 and even XP with service pack 3.

I had that problem once and it use to work on the same computer before so I went to mirosoft.com and serched out the questions and answers to problems on the windows as if vista, xp, windows 7 etc. then if not find the answer then I would find the fix it in mirosoft and run it (it was free) and that worked for me. and fixed the problem. sometimes you have to find updates to . go to the camera web site and check out the questions there also and something about your computer you are putting it on and maybe have to download or update there also. ask the company questions also if you do not understand and they will send you an e-mail or you may be able to chat with them for info to fix it..good luck

if the usb port works fine so probably you must check drivers for these kind of devices so in your case camera plugin for your computer os...
