Cleaning up

I wish there were an easier way to do this but I have decided to go through my friends list and delete inactive members. These are people who have low numbers (under 100, maybe 200) and who haven't logged in since 2-5 years ago. They are obviously not returning, right?
I know I haven't been very active on here just because I'm busy. I get notifications and if I see a discussion that I think I can contribute to I will respond and while on here I will look around at other discussions. I wish I had more time to dedicate to this website because I could use the money. There aren't enough hours in the day to do other stuff I have to do, like working on my novel.
My problem is that I check the friends list, see a friend with a low number and go to their profile. I see they haven't logged in for awhile. When I click the "back" arrow I get page cannot be found so I have to go back into my page, back into friends page, back into the page that "friend" was listed on and then delete them. Why does the page keep expiring? There has to be an easier way to go through these friends' profiles and delete them from my list than going back through all the pages. I don't have time to mess around with this either. So I did a few this afternoon and will do some more at a later date. Right now I have a ton of emails to go through... as always.
If anyone knows of an easier way to go through these friends and delete them I would be glad to hear it. I am only deleting people who haven't logged in for years.

Why bother? A list of friends is like a list of referrals. I have thousands of referrals here at Mylot and loads of them have never made a post or earned a cent. Why? I don't know! Why do they make all the effort to join and then never make the effort to join in? Waste of time I should think.
'There's nowt so queer as folk' as they say in the north of England.

... how are they like a list of referrals? ... - only in the sense that the excess and useless items in both friends and refs lists make no difference to the way you use the site or earn from the site. Also, deleting them makes no difference to them as they are not coming to the site to see that they are removed - as if they care!
@Casandrina - gosh! I hadn't even thought of that connection! Reminds me of the discussion here on food talking about chicken (chests!) and the word b*****s being such a shocking word even though half the world's population have them! haha

hi patgalca I wish too there w as an easier way but I don't know
of one either; I have a huge number of friends and several times I have deleted some who were not here onlty to see six months later they were back and I felt badly as they had been friends of mine. some asked to be re friended. so now I am nos tsure how long to wait bu t it seems to me if a p erson only comes here once every four or six months why leave them on my list as they obviously have never responded to me in all that time. I am not sure how long I must wait now.

There are many times I have gone thru my friends list and deleted some who are not active. It is a hard tedious task, but I have done some. It also is interesting to see even people with higher numbers who have since left here, or no longer active for various reasons. Most of the time I know if a person is active if they are starting New discussions or taking time to respond back.

I don't think that there is an easier way, though I don't delete inactive 'friends' from my list.
Last year I had one come back. He had been absent for more than two years and had only a few posts, four if I remember correctly. I was so pleased to see him return, especially as he was/is also my referral
The inactive ones can sit there as long as they like as they don't disturb anything at all if they never wake up. I just allow them to stay there and then it is a surprise when they do return - and many do these days.

I never wanted to do this. I remember in the past people saying they were doing it and I didn't understand the reasoning behind it. I just happened to go in today to turn off a notify button and found myself looking around. Like I said, it is time consuming and probably won't get around to doing anymore than the 10 or so that I did today.
Thanks for your comment.

Cleaning is a work we all have to do from time to time. A clean place is more clear , we are less confused by all of the garbage.
I guess only few people like cleaning just for fun...
If you have to clean your friends list , maybe just do it in sets : take 10 minuts to delete some inactive friends and do it once per some hours.
You will see a small difference that will maybe make you more productive because you will clean even more friends.
What can you say about cleaning mylot from old forgotten discussions that the chance for them to be ever answered is so low... ? I hope the admins also clean discussions.

I think that is a good idea. I just logged back in after about 6 months. I think I will try to go through my friends too with the same criteria that you are using. I have way too many friends on my list. Many are people I don't even know. I just accepted requests willy nilly and now must rectify the situation. Good luck to you!

You could open the page in a new window / tab so that you will not have to keep going back through all of the pages. I think that the page expiring has always happened, as I remember it happening when I've deleted people in the past myself. I don't add new friends because of that reason. I have 147 pending.

I had the page expire every OTHER time I did it. In other words, I was able to go back to the page the first time but the second time it would expire and I would have to go through the whole system again. Perhaps a purposeful deterrance from deleting friends???

Hi Pat, it is good to see you around again. As for me, i didn't delete off any of my inactive friend from my friends list. Because i do believe some day those inactive friends will be back and being active in here again. In fact, there are a few inactive friends of mine who had been back, posting in here once in a while. So, thus giving me chance to respond to their interesting topic as well. Hope to see you more often in here, Pat.

The reason why the page expires frankly do not know. However I, like you I decided to do some cleanup, Mylotters against my friends, who are no longer active on this site. This then, I can easily guess because i dont ever get any notification regarding their participation in the site. Then just also see their score rank, and what you are monitoring their activities. However I always regret deleting friends, whatever they are, I seem to do them wrong!

As I said in an earlier post, in the past I said I would not delete friends but I was in looking today and saw people with only a few posts and hadn't logged on in 4 or 5 years. After that long of a time it seemed obvious they wouldn't be returning.

When i check out the friends list, indeed the current system is quite a headache, if i really want to delete a few of my unwanted friends. But at this moment, i don't have the plan to delete any of my friends from my friends list. I will still maintained them like usual.

I've only been here a few months but I am already thinking of cleaning up my list. I was thinking of doing it periodically to avoid exactly having to delete too many and become too time consuming. I shouldn't worry about that, though; it's not like I have pages of friends list.

Although I think it will be a lot more handy if myLot implement the better friend list system..
There will bring no harm to you, I think..
