All of my friends here know that i like running and i've been running on a regular basis. Now i was asked by somebody in a social networking site if a run everyday. I don't, now and she told me that she would never ever run as it causes too many health problems. She mentioned knee problems, breast problems, etc. I didn't disagree with her but of course that didn't stop me from running. She insisted it's pretty unhealthy and she's advising me to stop. Well she's a grandmother and i understood what she means. In fact she told me that she believes in science. Improper running could really cause some serious damage. One should wear proper shoes, must have a steady stance and so on. My neighbor who's already in his 70s look fit and has never encountered any health problems because of running. And he's been running all his life.

hi toni. first off, great pic! sizzling like the upcoming summer months here in the country. back to the discussion, most probably, the old woman that you talked to was misinformed about running. it is true that if you run improperly due to wrong form or perhaps due to the use of inappropriate equipment, it will pose risks to your health. however, if you are educated enough to use the correct form and utilize the proper equipment, there shouldn't be any problems. anyway, you've been running a long time already and most likely you've read up on the do's and donts of running so you should be fine. cheers and keep posting great pics of yourself!!!

Hey Allen i've missed you! This surely made my day and hope to hear from you more and more each day! Darn i just realized i've been missing a lot here on mylot since i left. Anyway, she's too old to be convinced otherwise and i didn't want to be in an argument with her. I respected her opinion on that but of course i won't stop from running and i wasn't threatened at all. I've really missed you and hey, more pictures to follow!

hey toni, the feeling is mutual! been busy these past few months. just came back from a vacation at talisayin cove. it is farther from anawangin cove but definitely more beautiful and more laid back compared to anawangin. me and my mates are planning to hold packaged trips to the place as a business. nothing is final and everything is in the planning stages but it looks promising and profitable. looking forward to seeing more of your pics!!! lol!

I have heard a lot times that running is unhealthy. I have also heard that it's good. Anyhow, I think nobody could really stop you or force you to do something that you don't love. Perhaps a little bit of a balance is all that is needed. I have friends who have been running and I think some of them just didn't know how to balance, that's why they look older than we are - I guess it's the sun and too much exertion for the body to handle. But there are also friends who looked good. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Nah, I think they do put on sunblock. Regardless the amount of sunblock, longer exposure to sun is not advisable - even with sunblock. As for your neighbor, it doesn't take the sunblock alone or running alone that makes him look younger, there's always the genes, the lifestyle and the food habits. :) There are those who've never ran in their lives and still look good because of the genes they have. There are those who ran and did all types of exercises in proper doses who end up looking older than they are. :) Life's not fair, I know... hahahaha..

They just don't know how to put on sunblock before going out hahaha! My neighbor looks very young at his age and he's been running all his life. Running is supposed to make us look younger like other all exercises do.

Toni, i ever heard from a few of my friends who also said that running is not really healthy for our body especially for those who are heavily build person. Because you will need to put on some weight and strained your knees. I think we need to choose the type of exercise that suit us according to our body size. As for me, i usually prefer to have some walks in my garden rather than spending time running outside of my home. Because i am not a very slim person, i try not to hurt my knees too much.

Hello! It's been awhile. Yeah i got her point and your point too. There's a proper exercise for everybody but she shouldn't have generalized running as unhealthy.

Running is consider high impact exercise may hurt the knee and ankle joints and others especially if old people or heavy people jogging , hence a good shoes and good path for jogging is important to reduce the bad impact on the leg joints too. They are alternative better exercise to replace jogging which is swimming, however not all people like water too.

When I read the title I got a bit scared as I run everyday too. But then I remember meeting doctors in the park where I ran. I think I see at least 2 doctors everyday. So I guess running is healthy and medically approved. My mom and dad run every morning and I think it helped them look younger than they really are. Plus they also look fit. When we run we strengthen our heart, lungs, muscular and skeletal system. We also help get rid of our body toxins by excreting them in the sweat. Sweating causes clearer and healthier skin. Running also improves our metabolism and bowel movement. And lastly, it makes us feel confident with ourselves and our body.

I don't think running is unhealthy. It is another matter that the runner causes it to be injurious to his or her health. As we all know, excess of everything is bad.Similarly the best thing done improperly turns the worst.Your friend must have been running too much or improperly. If running is unhealthy, then how come it has improved the health of a large number of people.I had a poor health.I started running on a daily basis and it worked miracles. My health improved.

I know that running is an exercise so I think it's healthy for our body. I am glad to read about your 70s y.o neighbor. I am now encouraged to do the running sometimes. Thanks for the post.

It's been encouraged as a healthy exercise in the country. In fact my son's school sponsors a fun run and the last time we joined it as a family. It was indeed fun.

I think if you wear the proper shoes and a good sports bra you should be fine to run without problems. Running is great exercise and excellent for your heart health. I know people who have run every day for years without any problems. I cant run easily though. I have asthma that comes on when I run and after giving birth to my daughter it is hard to hold urine in if I run or jump things like that :(

You can sprint or walk. I agree with you. Wearing proper clothing and accessories can better equip us in running properly with less danger. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

LOL! There are some problems related to running if someone is brand new and just jumps in with both feet, willy nilly without any prep or plan. It is super easy to get injured if you decide to just suddenly take up ANY sport without a little thought and consideration. Recently, someone I know told me that if I run too much, or after I've run too much that I will ruin my knees permanently and have back problems, and for the record, if I STOP running that I will get fat. First of all, I'm not really sure there's such a thing as 'too much' because most runners are pretty in tune with their bodies. We are a stubborn bunch but we aren't stupid. Another thing she doesn't realize is that unlike many runners out there, I don't hurt when I run. I'm not in the habit of popping otc painkillers because I need them to keep running. If I've been running for something like 6 hours, then I might take one to help cut the inflammation and swelling but it's not a habit. I thought it was awfully rude of her to insist that I would get fat when I stopped running because again, if I cut my activity, it only follows that I would eat LESS and also eat LESS junk as a part of the whole, so it would balance out even if I gained a pound or two while I was working out the kinks lol. I saw MANY older people running at the St. George marathon, and I continue to see plenty of older (grandparent age) people running wherever I go. It's probably not safe for someone who has never run a step in their life to suddenly go out and run at age 70, but for lifetime runners, getting older doesn't present much of a hazard or reason for any of us to stop doing what we love. It IS true that you need to start slowly, shell out money for a good pair of shoes, and wear appropriate clothing for the weather so you don't overheat, chafe, freeze, or drown, but running is still one of the easiest sports to get into and continue without a huge cost - unless you become addicted to racing.

Well Toni, running is indeed a healthy thing. But if you have knee problems, then it will aggravate that. That's because when you run it's the knee that supports your weight from your above body. So, it's not really advisable for us , who have knee problem. But generally, running is very good to our health. I envy those people who has jogging as their way of keeping fit. Keep on running Toni, so your sexy body will be maintained.

LOL! I read recently that one of the reasons they didn't initially allow women to run marathons is because MEN thought it would kill us or make our uteruses fall out! So freaking funny.... shows you how intellectually conscious men were in the 50s and 60s!

Of course i do understand that. But to generalize running as unhealthy to women is not right.

hi, for me i am not really like running as my exercise because it will hurt my ankle and my knee, but i dont think so that running could be a one of the unhealthy, because some people said running is more good exercise because it will move all parts of your body.

Walking is a great alternative to running if you've been encouraged to exercise and lose weight or maintain weight but not cleared for running because of other health issues. Even runners sometimes need to walk to cross train due to taper needs or to heal from injuries caused from running.

Nowadays, running is a fad in our country and i see a lot of people running for health. There are those though who are advised by their doctors not to run especially those who have hurt ankles and knees, and those with heart ailments. Walking is an alternative exercise.

You're right when you say that one should use the proper shoes, so we can avoid a strong impact by running and damage our knees. May be for some people doesn't suit running and for them were better another sport, but I see a lot of people doing this every morning and they know that it's a good exercise. I think that if you make jogging on the right way, you can get benefits from it. Before and after running it's good to stretch, in order to avoid injures.

Running will only be unhealthy if you run against doctor's advise or you have an existing heart problems or condition. Because running can increase cardiac workload and will put so much strain to your heart. But if you are healthy and no contraindication to run then do so. It will help you stay physically fit and happy because I read once that exercising can increase serotonin our body that makes us happy and energitic. Also, running can only be unhealthy if you do nnot have a healthy diet to go with it. Running produces sweat and makes your muscle work therefore electrolytes can be lost in the process. And we need to replace it from time to time. Maybe the grandma had prior experience or know someone who runs and experience the side effects of pushing one's body to the limit. That was why she is against it.
