I have had the flu or allergies or something for the last week and half and missed the first weekend of the famers market. I am going to go Saturday and really looking forward to getting out and enjoying the smells of fresh produce and veggies I plan to bypass the grocery stores for fresh farm raised vegetables they always taste so much better. Do you visit the farmers markets when you have one near by? I am hoping to find some fresh tupelo honey too. That has such a good flavor in my tea over regular store honey. Tupelo honey is made fresh here in Florida too.

Wish we had a farmers market close to us but since we don't am thankful that my husband puts in a garden every year. Still got the flu and the smells are not as sweet right now. Had to get out yesterday and it felt good but it wore us out. Never heard of Tupelo honey but honey has some healing facts to it. So it will be a good thing to get the fresh honey to help heal you. Mom and her husband has bees so we can get fresh honey every year. Hope you find the fresh honey. Hope and pray you get well soon my friend!

hi free_man how kind of you wishing me well! Thank you! I had no idea how many different varieties of honey there was til I moved to florida. I just thought honey was honey LOL Now I know bees make different kinds depending on what they pollunate. Even though I grew up pretty much on a farm during my childhood years honey making was not something my grandparents did. however I do remember grandma making soreghum. Didn't like the taste of it but I know some people do. My husband and I have put in a garden every year but it gets so hot here in florida it just bakes the poor plants. you water and water and they look good in March April and May then the heat wave comes and your poor plants cant stand up against them without a constant sprinkling system. So about two years ago after much investment in plants, seeds, etc we sold our tiller and gave up the idea of planting. So I love being able to help out our local farmers by what they raise.

You are so welcome Marie. I never liked soreghum either. My husband likes it. I know how hard it is to try and keep the garden from going down hill after all the work and money it takes to put it in. But we keep doing it every year. It is worth all the hard work to have fresh grown vegies. When the hotter months come up we water early in the morning and late in the evening it has always worked for us. Just takes a lot of patients and hard hard work. Good that you have local farmers markets we don't so we will keep putting in the garden every year.

We have a farmer's market in our area, but it isn't open yet. I have never been there, but have always wanted to go. I hate to cook, but I love fresh fruit and I would buy as much as I could. I probably would want to buy more, but I wouldn't want it to go bad so would resist. I have never tried that kind of honey, but I love honey in my tea.

I guess our farmers market does open early in the year compared to other states. I asked the lady at the market how long they will stay open and she said through November. I know my daughter went there when she was here a couple of times but I for some reason did not go to that one. We have two in town and I never made it down to the one by the water. I really enjoyed it though and know where I will go on Saturdays.

You are fortunate to be in Florida. I imagine your farmers market lasts longer than ours does. Unfortuantly ours here in WI will not open til mid May and they close in mid October. And when they do open it will not have much produce as our growing season here does not start til May and things don't start to come in til mid June even then it's not alot. But I am looking forward to buying more this year from the markets as our finances are better this year and dare I say I'll have actual cash and not plastic to get things we need. I really want to visit a few stalls regularly if our budget allows.

I actually get more vegetables for the money at the farmers market than in a grocery store. I got our weeks worth for 17.00 that would have cost me well over 50.00 even in a walmart supercenter And we are actually helping the people that grew it too. My daughter was here last year and had WIC for her baby girl and she was expecting her second and she actually got vegetable vouchers to use at the farmers market. She was thrilled to have fresh vegetables to cook.

Farmers markets are awesome. The ones we have in our city aren't set up yet, they usually don't until summer (June-ish, normally) but when they do they are AWESOME! I love that everything is local, they have a lot of organic stuff, and it's relatively cheap as far as the pricing goes. I missed going last year with everything going on in my life but this year for sure I will hit it up! My stomach is grumbling right now just thinking about the fresh zucchini, tomatoes, corn on the cob, peaches, etc! Yum!!!

I steamed fresh greenbeans and sliced carrots last night with fish. It was really good to have fresh veggies again. I have been reading articles saying there is no difference in buying the frozen or canned. I sure can taste a difference LOL. I got some zucchini. I plan on breading and frying some for dinner tomorrow night. And the tomatoes are red not pink like at the store. So we will have to eat them fast.

I did not know this. What did the findings of the study prove? Are they true? My grandmother suffers from high blood pressure and if the findings of the research are true I will buy her a box of chocolates so that she can have one a day.
